I work 40 hrs a week, never a second more, no kids, no hobbies, no shirt no shoes no service and even I feel like my free time is limited. Seems like as soon as I get home from work and eat dinner, its time to go to bed.

    I can't imagine working 60+ hours a week.

My friends dad works 60 hours one week then 20 hours the next. In the end it's 40 hours a week. That, I think I could do.

Reminds me of an old joke: A 60 y/o man marries a 20 y/o girl. Then people ask him: "How do you get along with the age difference?", the man replies: "When I look at her I feel 20 years younger, when she looks at me she feels 20 years older. So we're even".

I am also of the work to live theory.

However, the relatives of a couple people I know did the work to live thing for a few years and are now banking over $5 mil a year. I just don't see the pro athlete or CFO of a multinational auto parts company in my future though

By working 60+ hours a week, don't you feel like you lack free time? I also imagine it's not the best thing for your health, if your job is stressful.

I work 42.5 hrs a week and don't have kids, and I feel like my free time is very limited.
That's the goal. However, I haven't done so well recently as the market has been terrible. It will bounce back though before I'm even close to retiring (I'm 32 now).

Sure, I feel like I lack free time, but I try to pack as much in a day as I can. Here's a typical schedule:
                    - I wake up at 5:45am, workout for 30-40 minutes in my basement, then shower and go to work.
                    - Arrive at work at 7am (luckily I live about 5-10 minutes from my job). -- - Go home around 7-8 most nights. I usually leave around 6 on Friday though.
                    - Eat dinner with the wife around 7-8 and then watch some shows on the DVR or play video games if she has work to do that night (she also works a lot of hours - I just got home and am waiting for her to get home to eat).
                    - In bed around 11pm.
                    - On Saturday and Sunday I often work from home for a few hours in the morning and then do what I need to do in the afternoon (ie: help with laundry, cleaning the house, cleaning the cars, doing house projects etc...).
                    - Saturday night is the night we go out and have dinner, movie, shopping, comedy club etc...

I feel like I have less free time than a previous job, but I'm also making more money which allows me to travel more, buy more things and save more for retirement. I'm also happy at the job (better co-workers and boss). So it's a trade off. It is stressful and I have noticed I've been sicker more often this past winter than previous winters when I had another job. However, I don't expect to be here forever. I mentioned it above, but I figure 2 more years and then move onto something else where the stress isn't so high. Plus, my wife and I will likely try to have kids around that time and I want to be home more at night for that.

I don't think I could move to Sacramento. My grandparents live up there and it is terribly boring. Especially coming from the Bay Area, you'll know exactly what you're missing. Hopefully the Oakland thing works out for you.

I'd probably move to a more boring city for no other reason than to be more comfortable and relaxed.

I would love to be in a city with a pro team, that would take all the boredom right out of the door. The only city I've lived in with a pro team was Detroit, which was cool; the downside was that I was still living in Detroit.
                            PS: You guys are great.
