Re: Color photos from the 1930s and 1940s
That's pretty crazy.
Seeing it now, it made me realize that I every thought about the old days is in black and white. It's like those times were actually in black and white and then in more modern times we all changed to color. hahaNHL - Philadelphia Flyers
NFL - Buffalo Bills
MLB - Cincinnati Reds

Wow some great stuff.
slickdtc I know what you mean about thinking the old days were in black and white, sometimes I think that way. I remember a long while ago I saw some movies and pictures of Nazi Germany in color and that really freaked me out.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

That World's Fair picture is crazy...I remember seeing B&W pics from CHicago's in 1893 and just wanting to see it in color because of the amazing structures thery built.
TBH though, I feel the color takes away from the emotion and aura that B&W brings.Comment

Re: Color photos from the 1930s and 1940s
So whats the thought on these pics? Them seem so real.
im guessing photoshoped to ENHANCE the colors? Dont get me wrong i dont think these are fake and they really mkae me look at the past different but they seem to good. Since i know NOTHING about photo editing im not going to assume anything. Some just look so prestine.Comment

Re: Color photos from the 1930s and 1940s
There's no photoshop -- the pictures aren't ultra-crisp except for the black and white one...
And yeah, great post -- I already went and shared these on the other board that I frequent. Amazing stuff... the creepy guys at the OK dance are making me giggle.Send your Midnight Release weirdo pics/videos to my new website: http://www.peopleofmidnightreleases.com!Comment

Re: Color photos from the 1930s and 1940s
Reminds me of the time i turned on the tv (left on a movie channel) and was watching a show/documentry about porn in the 1920's. Very odd and distrubing to some degree. Very shocked to see porn in black and white and doing things people during that time would NEVER do. I wouldnt have watched it except it just showed me how much i dont know about our past and only the good things are talked about. It was talking about big movie stars in bad films that are not on their list of movies done. Kinda one of those things we tried to sweep under the rug thing. Now that i kno i NEVER doubt what was being done behind closed doors at any point during history.
Kinda off topic but looking at these color picks put new light on the time, kinda like that documentry did to me. So it wasnt completly irrevelent. Believe me i feel dumb talking about porn in the 20's.
Some of those pictures really made me realize just how much we think the world before us was in black and white
And i didnt think it was photoshoped, i wanted people who know better to tell me before i believe the hype. People are always trying to claim things to be fake. Not that i ever believe anything 100%Last edited by sb24; 03-11-2009, 12:47 PM.Comment

Here are some REALLY old ones from WWI taken primarily by the French military... the French were the ones who first developed color photography. Lots of cool pics here: http://www.worldwaronecolorphotos.com/index.html

Crazy seeing all those classics parked together
Love this one.
Bound for Glory: America in Color is the first major exhibition of the little known color images taken by photographers of the Farm Security Administration/Office of War Information (FSA/OWI). Comprised of seventy digital prints made from color transparencies taken between 1939 and 1943, the photographs document not only the effects of the Depression on America’s rural and small town populations in the pictures but also the dawn of the era of color photography.
