Yale Student Sues Airline For $1M Over Lost Xbox

A Yale University student from Ohio has filed a lawsuit seeking $1 million from US Airways for a video game he says was taken from his luggage.
Twenty-one-year-old Jesse Maiman alleges that during a flight from New Haven, Conn., to Cincinnati in December, his Xbox 360 with a specialized hard drive disappeared from his luggage.
Maiman says he got what he called an "unconscionable run-around" from the airline. He's asking $1,700 for the loss of the gaming system and for the maximum damages allowable, or $1 million.
Maiman filed the suit Monday in Hamilton County Common Pleas Court.
A US Airways spokeswoman said the airline was unaware of the suit but noted that the government limits liability for lost luggage to $3,300 per bag.

Southwest lost my Xbox 360 last December. After three months of documentation of what was in there and phone tag, I ended up with $200 of travel vouchers. FML. I hate Southwest /end rant.

Does "specialized hard drive" = modded (i.e. illegal) hard drive?

I agree with you here, but......

I am totally on this guy's side. I know it's just a 360, but the point of this, is to not let these lowlifes who handle the luggage get away with this ****.

I am proud of this guy taking the time to follow through. A man with principles. That's what I'm preachin'.

Since 9/11 you can't lock it b/c they have to have the ability to search it if they so desire...

I ALWAYS use a carry on sized bag...they few times I have checked it, it was lost for some period of time or stuff was missing...

luggage can't be locked. If it is, they will cut the lock off.

I believe TSA opens up every piece of luggage. Everytime I have flown, relatively frequently, I open up my luggage to find the notice that my bag has been checked.

Interesting. Was it one of these locks?

                    http://www.tsa.gov/travelers/airtrav...ant/locks.shtm

TSA screens every passenger's baggage before it is placed on an airplane. While our technology allows us to electronically screen bags, there are times when we need to physically inspect a piece of luggage. TSA has worked with several companies to develop locks that can be opened by security officers using universal "master" keys so that the locks may not have to be cut. These locks are available at airports and travel stores nationwide. The packaging on the locks indicates whether they can be opened by TSA.
Maybe it was because it was such a short flight?

I hope this guy gets something but really, I would never pack something that valuable in my luggage just for this very reason. Sometimes you can't even trust the airlines.
