Oil change help! Simple question...
Ok, Ive been away from home for almost 3months and before I left, my car was low on oil plus it has been sitting since like Jan...when I came home a couple days ago I tried to start my car but it would cut off right away, my guage says "oil change required" so I want to know would it be ok for me to add some oil to my car so it can get me to a shop for a oil changed?

Re: Oil change help! Simple question...
Tha's what I would try myself. I see you live in Philly leaving a car low on fluids in this winter is tough. Unavoidable but, tough on a car.Gaming hard since 1988
I have won like 25 Super Bowls in Madden so I am kinda a big deal. -
Re: Oil change help! Simple question...
Yeah just check the stick. If the oil is low then add some. Ain't gonna hurt nothing but I'd check out why a 2008 car is low on oil.Comment

When you put it in though let it run for a minute and look underneath. Make sure oil ain't just gushing out of it. Make sure nobody stole your filter or something, lol.Comment

Re: Oil change help! Simple question...
Agreed. A newer car shouldn't run low on oil...even if it's not cared for or maintained. Make sure it's not leaking somewhere.
As reference, my last car never once ran low on oil. I traded it in after 8 years and changed the oil between every 5000-7000 miles (should have done it at 5000 each time, but I missed a few times...especially near the end when I knew I was trading it in).Comment

Yeah I find it very odd. I had an old Civic which I knew need a new gasket and it still wasn't losing oil like he's saying.Comment

Re: Oil change help! Simple question...
Lol my fault its a 06 not a 08, was wondering why some refered to it as newer......it has about 36000 miles on it and I regularly get a change every 3000 or so miles(I think, they give me a date to come back) come to think of it, I did have a leak in the engine over the summer which they fixed(my engine light kept coming on)man I wish I knew cars like I know sports!Agreed.
