90% of Hawaii is indeed cheesy but the trick is finding that 10% that not too many people know about. My dog's butt smells like cookiesComment

Re: Going to Aruba in a week
Well yeah, Hawai'i is pretty much nature or tourist spots... not too much in-between there since their state is so heavily financed by tourism. The locals hate it (they'd prefer 95% nature as it was before 1950), but there's so few of them left at this point that they know it's a losing battle.
Ever since their native queen was unceremoniously deposed due in large part to the US, it's been one big downward spiral for the native Hawaiian culture, unfortunately. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Morgan_Report
Lots of natives there absolutely hate tourists, and there are instances of harassment and violence stemming from that. I don't blame them.Send your Midnight Release weirdo pics/videos to my new website: http://www.peopleofmidnightreleases.com!Comment

Re: Going to Aruba in a week
I had an amazing time in Aruba. The first thing that comes to mind is how nice everyone is. Everyone was extremely courteous, and the other tourists at our hotel were also very cool. Its hard not to be when you're in such a beautiful place.
We stayed at the Hyatt which was awesome, but I will admit it was expensive. When we go back we plan on staying somewhere a little less expensive. Our hotel bill alone after 5 nights came out to about 5k.But we did massages and all types of other crap and charged it to the room. Regardless, still expensive.
The restaurants were also expensive (around $120 a couple), but definetly worth every penny. I would recommend El Gaucho's, Texas De Brazil, Yemanja, and Gianni's. We also went to the Flying Fishbone which is on the beach and you watch the sun go down while you eat, but we hated it. The tables were too close together and it was really far from the hotel.
Some random notes.
The customs service in Aruba sucks. We waited on line in the Aruba airport coming and going for at least an hour each.
Every place you eat will ask you if you want sparkling water. If you say yes (which my wife did for every meal) they will leave to bottle on the table and charge you about $15 for the bottle at the end of the meal. We didn't notice this until the last day.
Try the local beer (Balashi). I loved it.
If you want to bring some Cuban cigars back, just take them out of the metal tube and peel the label off. Everyone does it that way and they don't care at all.
You have to wear some strong *** sunscreen. Its windy there so the sun never feels as strong as it really is. I got burnt to a crisp the second day I was there and got the chills really bad that night. The second to last day we were there we spent the whole day jetskiing and tubing and the next day I had a horrible flu, and that was with sunscreen on.
Watch out for iguanas. They're everywhere. Scared the hell out of me.
Have funComment

Re: Going to Aruba in a week
What I mean is are you going with a lady friend, or a bunch of guys?
I dont thinks most people realize how much fun you can have with a bunch of guys in Aruba! What I mean is anything goes on the locals side of the island if you know what I mean. The Aruban women are beautiful and really like to hang out with American men! Also there are some awesome bars on the St. Nicolas side of the island that most tourist have no clue about.
Also where are you staying? Are you renting a car? If so rent a Jeep, if you dont they will give you a really small ****y car.ND Season Ticket Holder since '72.Comment
