I am so clueless. Good call! I have done that before. I need to start reading the date. So we are actually in 2010. I still thought this was 2009. Thanks.

Yeah thats what my docter said. I spent so much of my life wound up tight on a daily basis that now that everything is " normal" by body and mind is kind of going through withdrawel symptoms of stress.

I really appreciate all the responses. I feel a little better knowinw that I am not alone and that so many others have the same problem. Hang in there people I know we can get through this. Peace

I suffer from this . I don't have panic attacks but I do get nervous and became awkwardly quiet. My problem is I'm scared to talk , well converse, with people I don't know well. I have been called the cute weird guy, quiet shy guy , but I'm not shy I just feel as if anything I say will get joked about or isn't relevant. Any advice to overcome this?

Re: Does anyone here suffer from an anxiety disorder?

My freshman year of college I had anxiety attacks. Working graveyard then going straight to school, sleeping for 4 hours, doing it again, it messed me up.

I had symptoms for months but I had my first full fledge attack on the Fourth of July. We were about to head out to watch the show and I just started feeling very weird. My heart rate went up to around 120 bpm, I felt like I was going to fall through the ground. If I stood up I felt very dizzy.

I laid on a bed for like 3 hours and eventually I calmed down. Over the course of that summer I probably went to the ER about 4 times thinking I was having a heart attack, each time they hooked me up, looked at me and said nothing is wrong. I had a couple 24 hour holter monitors, even one that I wore for like 7 days that was like an event recorder and I pressed a button anytime I felt weird. Even had an echogram where I got to see my heart beating on a screen right in front of me. Everything was fine.

That period of time, Xanax worked for me. After awhile it went away. Few years ago it hit me again, out of nowhere. That time got really bad, it was hard for me to get out of bed some days. My heart rate would just shoot crazy high when I tried leaving the house. I had to go on leave. They gave me klonopin this time and it would help. It took awhile but I got over it. I've been benzo (all meds, actually) free for a long time, probably close to two years, maybe a little more. I found that exercise and just overall activity helped me quite abit. I wish I knew now what I knew then, would have saved me a lot of crappy nights. If I feel some weirdness creeping up on me during a stressful time I can tell myself its just anxiety, I am not about to die, everything is cool.

It's not a weakness. It's a chemical imbalance in your brain, it's real. You can't underestimate the power of your body to handle things anyway it seems fit.

Re: Does anyone here suffer from an anxiety disorder?

Between the ages of 18-24 I used to suffer from absolutely terrible panic attacks. I even ended up in the ER a few times over them. I figured out the cause of them (can't really discuss on here as it might violate the ToS) and as long as I avoid caffeine, they'll never come back.

I'm about 95% sure that I've got social anxiety disorder, but I've never been officially diagnosed with it (never really been to a psychologist either though, so take that for what it's worth).

Re: Does anyone here suffer from an anxiety disorder?

I have a bunch of different problems with anxiety...a brief recap:

-I have an irrational fear of having a heart attack, so I check my pulse regularly throughout the day

-If I'm going to a public place, I wait until someone I know comes before I go in because I feel like people are staring at me...I never walk into a place with large amounts of people by myself

-When I'm finished taking a test, I always wait until someone else gets up to hand theirs to the teacher to get up and do the same because I feel like everyone will stare at me

-If I'm listening to the radio and the song that's playing mentions something about death, I feel like it's a sign that something bad will happen to me

-Every time I get a headache I panic because I think I'm going to have a stroke

-After watching the 30 for 30 on Hank Gathers I refused to do any strenuous activity because I was afraid the same thing would happen to me

-I will not talk to anyone I don't know unless they approach me first...every time I try it's basically a guaranteed panic attack

-Ever since my last accident there's been occasions where I've been driving and I'll get mental images of nearby vehicles hitting my car, which causes me to freak out...the one got to the point where I had to pull over and chill for a few minutes so I could calm down

I share these with you, big time. Was an issue for me for a long time, still pops up now and then and I have to focus on just not worrying

I have anxiety, I guess mine isn't too bad overall but it definitely flares up from time to time.

I'm 100% with you on the first two, on the third one I am to an extent, mine is only in one situation since I was parked at a red light and got rear ended by someone who was on a cellphone who didn't notice I was stopped and rear ended me so now anytime I'm stopped at a stop light I am really paranoid about the people behind me.

As far as other things go I guess my main thing would be I can tend to become really reclusive, when my anxiety flares up especially, so I don't always go out much and that has lost me friends over the years. I can understand how they become frustrated when they want to go out and do things and you just can't get yourself up to leaving the house. I haven't told many people about my anxiety which probably makes that worse in terms of them wondering why I don't want to do anything but its just something I tend to keep to myself.

I seem to do fine with work I guess because I know that's something I absolutely have to do because I need a paycheck so that mostly just applies to any other social setting. I mean I can be anxious when at work but I do a pretty good job of faking it so I seem fine overall just maybe a little distant some days.

My worst anxiety is that, for whatever reason, I can't piss when someone steps up next to me at the urinal. It is literally the worst. Whether I'm at a ballgame, a bar, or whatever. I just can't do it, and it's hilarious how stupid it is. I don't care if anyone sees my ****, been in many locker rooms over my sports years. But I get uncontrollably nervous thinking the guy next to me is waiting to hear me piss. It's literally just like Waiting... especially at the very end haha.

I can't ride in the passenger seat of a car. I'm tall, so legroom has always been an issue, but the last couple of years if I'm not driving I start to panic. I went on a trip with my wife a couple of weeks ago, and she drove about 10 minutes before I had to make her pull over so I could drive. It's frustrating on long trips that I have to drive all the time.
