Would You Still Root For Your Favorite Team Of All-Time If...

You ended up playing for a rival team in the league?

Example: I am a die hard Chargers fan. But what if I played football all through college and ended up getting drafted by the Broncos (ugh). Would I want to beat the Chargers? I dont think I could do it...

But i have never been in that position so I am not sure really. But I am leaning towards "Stay a fan"

Your duty of loyalty would be to your team, as die hard of a fan as I may be, I would resent them for not taking me or trading up to get me.

It is like the reverse situation of a hated player from a hated rival going to your team, such as say TO from the Eagles to the Cowboys.

I would still root for my favorite team quietly but on gameday when i'm facing that team I will compete as hard as I can to beat that team.

It would hurt in the first couple years but after that it'll be routine.

I would probably make it known I would not be playing for the hated team. I wouldn't talk to them at the combine or workout for them. Tell them if they draft you, they are wasting their pick.

If I had a chance to play professional sports at any level, you can forget about who I root for while I'm playing. When my career is over with though, I'll go back to being a fan of my favorite team, and probably want a management job with that organization.

I don't know...I'm thinking about it, and I could never even affiliate myself with the Cowboys or the Eagles.

In the NBA, I would play for anybody.

Probably not. If another team is paying me millions to perform for them, that's where my loyalties would be. After my career was over, I would possibly continue rooting for them.

              That's an easy question.

I'm playing the sport because I love it, and I want to win... I don't care who I'm playing for - I want to play the best I can, and I want to win. I would cheer for that team still when playing against other teams - or should they make the playoffs and I'm not playing against them... But I would never root for them against the team I'm playing for - I'd personally rather win than see them do so.

what a stupid thread. you wouldn't be a fan if you were getting paid millions to play. you would be a player now that is focused on making money. players and fans are too different things. you can't be both.

Yeah, fanship (if that is even a word) goes out the door when you actually have to compete with/agaisnt those people.

As a fan you root for the players, but once you are on their level competing against the, that would all go out the door.

That would be like growing up a fan of Ken Griffey and then pitching against him and giving up a game winning HR to him and then cheering for him as he is rounding the bases. Once you are on that level competing against them, rooting for that player probably goes out the window.

I'm not saying you still don't admire them or even root for them in other games, but when your facing off against them, you should be able to look past it.

It's like playing against your friends in little league or whatever growing up. You want them to do good when they are not playing against you...as soon as you have to face them, it's all business.

I'm sure a large portion of MLB players grew up Yankee fans and I'm sure every one of them wants nothing more than to see them lose every year.

F- Kirk Gibson and his limp *** HR, I will never play for the Dodgers even if you are the only team that wants to draft me

                      Me personally? Yes.

That doesn't mean I am unloyal to the franchise, it means that I am still a fan of another team.

There are several players across any league that, I'm sure, play for a team they hated when they grew up but still are a fan of their old favorites.
