When I read stories like these I can't help but to feel extremely lucky that I've never been crashed into by texters, drunkards, druggies, bad drivers, people who fell asleep etc. I definitely take driving for granted in terms of safety.Comment

I'm just shocked I've actually never been invovled in anything like that.
Anyway she killed someone because of negligence and this was obviously preventable. She deserves prison time.

I don't understand why people can't wait to call or text, I think it's dumb to do that while driving. I'm one of the few teenagers that I know that doesn't text or talk on the phone while driving, I just hope for their sake they get lucky and don't end up getting in a serious accident, or you know stop texting while driving(but that'd be way to much to ask
). This women deserved the prison time IMO.

Talking on the phone is one thing. Still not recommended, but at least you can keep your eyes on the road and hands on the wheel (w/ a headset, that is). But texting? That's just ********, and you deserve whatever punishment you get.Comment

About a month ago I was visting a friend in Malibu...
We were on the PCH headed to Santa Monica...
A hott girl pulled up parrallel to us doing about 60 MPH with BOTH HANDS ON HER PHONE, LOOKING DOWN, TEXTING LIKE CRAZY...
I turned to my friend, who was driving, and motioned for him to check it out...
When we looked over SHE WAS STILL AT IT...
She had gone about a half mile at 60 MPH without her hands anywhere near the wheel or her eyes focused anyhere near the road...
It would have been funny is it wasn't so infuriating...
This cr*p has to stop, maybe this conviction will help somehow...Comment

I see this all the time. I'm an extremely cautious driver, especially driving here in New England which is ridiculous. People txting, talking on the phone, women putting on makeup, people just not paying attention to the road. It's scary driving along side these people. I've avoided so many wrecks by always looking ahead, being cautious, and being a defensive driver. Text messaging is such a useless feature - I mean, you have a d*mn phone, you can physically talk to people, literally transmit sound! So why the h*ll would you need to write to them?? Not to mention, it's impossibly hard to type, and you end up writing in a dumbed-down version of English!
Text messaging might be good for middle schoolers who want an alternative to passing notes in class.But if you're in your car, it's dangerous enough to be talking on the phone - now you're gonna be texting??
This idiot deserves six years in jail - in fact, she should get more. The longer people like this are off the streets, the better. I walk to most places I go and I have seen 2 people in the last week run through a red light while looking down at the phone. I about got hit from one of them.
They have done studies that show people who are distracted from kids, lack of sleep and cell phones perform just as poorly as intoxicated drivers....food for thought.Comment
