Knee Pain
I noticed after playing basketball yesterday that there was a sharp pain in my knee when I was walking up the stairs. There appeared to be a slight lump right below my knee, kind of where the shin meets the knee cap. The area is pretty sensitive to the touch. I tried to run on it again today and it is pretty painful. I googled a few things and came up with something called Jumper's Knee (Patellar Tendonitis). Does anyone have any experience with this? Does anyone know what else it could be?YNWATags: None -
Re: Knee Pain
Yes. I used to get fluid buildup from the minuscus in my knee just below the knee cap and that bump above the shin all the time.
Proper warm ups and rest make it go away now.
May not be the same thing but if you notice swelling it could be. -

When playing ball I use this on my right knee, which is the worst. I'm pain free when playing but I usually just ice and heat after. These straps hold your meniscus in place which is probably whats causing the fluid buildup.

Re: Knee Pain
You might have osgood schlatter disease. How old are you? I remember having pains like that when I was 15 ish. A big bump will develop below the knee. Read this:
The condition occurs in active boys and girls aged 11-15[4], coinciding with periods of growth spurts. It occurs more frequently in boys than in girls, with reports of a male-to-female ratio ranging from 3:1 to as high as 7:1. It has been suggested the difference is related to a greater participation by boys in sports and risk activities than by girls.
The condition is usually self-limiting and is caused by stress on the patellar tendon that attaches the quadriceps muscle at the front of the thigh to the tibial tuberosity. Following an adolescent growth spurt, repeated stress from contraction of the quadriceps is transmitted through the patellar tendon to the immature tibial tuberosity. This can cause multiple subacute avulsion fractures along with inflammation of the tendon, leading to excess bone growth in the tuberosity and producing a visible lump.Comment

Re: Knee Pain
I can rest and jog/stretch to warm up, but it doesn't really matter to me. That meniscus is going to move around in my knee causing the pain. That's why I wear the strap. Honestly, after a few times of wearing it I didn't even notice it anymore.Comment

Re: Knee Pain
I have patellar tendonitis and it sucks! I had a procedure in college called "dry needling" and it took the pain away from my left knee. I thought they were crazy when they said they were gonna poke 30+ holes in my tendon while I was awake, but the pain went away.
Now my right knee hurts...too much volleyball and basketball.
Just wait until you are driving and your knee starts to hurt and there's nothing you can do about it. I felt like that all weekend.
I'm pretty sure you have pattellar tendonitis. Basically if you put most of your weight on one leg and squat or try and jump off one leg it will kill. A nice sharp pain when you try = jumper's knee.Comment
