Tonight was the last track meet of the year, thus ends my 14 year stint as a football and track coach. My teams won 5 football championships and 4 track, so it was a pretty good run. It's a great relief to be getting out of coaching and to just teach in the classroom.
My wife breaking her leg at the start of football season this past fall set the end of coaching in motion. I took a lot of time off to take care of her and in the end it cost me my post as offensive coordinator. So be it; I wouldn't change a thing. Now I have more time for my family. Thankfully I always did a pretty decent job of teaching in the classroom, so the administrators in my school district made a place for me as a teacher.
It almost feels as good as the day I got out of the army.
