    Car Question

I've recently inherited some money, about 12K and I'm looking at getting a new car. I've test drove some, and I've basically cut my list down to two.

It's between a 2006 Hyundai Accent HB I found for basically pennies at 6,883 with only 22K miles on it, and this other dealership that has about 20 2007 Ford Focus's all for 8,995.

My plan was to put about either 5 or 6 of it down, and then keep the rest of the money and put it towards schooling, my question is does anyone know anything bout those 2 cars, or can anyone suggest any other cars to look at?

    My main requirements?

    Automatic
    Compact
    Good Gas Mileage
    Affordable
    No History of Mechanical/Electrical Failure

    Re: Car Question

I have a 06 Focus hatchback/3rd door/whatever they call it. I haven't had any problems with it at all. I've only had the oil changed. I've got a little over 20,000 miles on it. I usually get between 29-32 mpg. 29 is low and usually from being stuck in traffic. Its normally 31-32 mpg.

Its not a big car, but also can hold a lot by laying down the backseat. 2 people are fine, but more than 3 and it would be crapped. Its a good gas mileage car without being too small or slow. I could have spent more, but I'm happy with the car. I got mine new, but my company gets the same prices as the Ford Suppliers, so it was invoice price - all rebates, cash back, etc. I got a $20,000 car for around $14,000 with extended warranty and taxes included.

Buy the car out right, seriously. What ever car you choose. With the way the economy is now, you want to own your car out right. That way you won't have to worry about a car note down the line if you so happen to lose your job. Or worry about a dealership going up on much your montly car note will be.

Because I have some friends who car note jumped by $50 or $70 extra a month now. So buy a car out right.

I didn't know car loans had adjustable rates. You may be better off tax wise if you pay it off and get loans for school as you have longer to pay those off and the interest is lower.

I would get a used car for 12K. Hyundai and Ford Focus are wuss cars. You could probably get a nice Chevy Impala used for 12K.

To be fair, after scholarships and financial aid my parents are paying about 2K a year for my college.

Books are my only real expense when it comes to College.

That's 2k more then what my parents paid for my college LOL. They didn't pay a dime, had to pay my own way. What is even more messed up was the fact they had money to pay for it.

Well I bought my car today....

A fully loaded 2008 Kia Rio for 7,998. Has the balance of the Kia factory warranty, which is another 52K miles or 5 more years, whatever happens first.
