    Anybody Collect Records?

Recently, my girlfriend got me a record player because I had mentioned how cool it would be to own one and so far, I'm loving it.

Anyone out there collect records and if so, anything with value? I'd love to hear your collection.

So far, all I have is:

    Cream - The Best Of
Derek and the Dominoes - Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs
    Metallica - Master of Puppets
Lynyrd Skynyrd - Gold and Platinum
    Europe - The Final Countdown
The Steve Miller Band - Greatest Hits 1974-1978
    The Outlaws - Outlaws

    Re: Anybody Collect Records?

I started collecting about 2 years ago.

The only notable records I have are:

    Miles Davis - Bitches Brew
Elton John - Goodbye Yellow Brick Road
    Cortex - Troupeau Bleu

Maybe tomorrow I'll post some pictures of my collection.

      Re: Anybody Collect Records?

I don't even know where to begin here... I have easily over 1,000 12 inch LPs and probably around 150 7 inch singles and EPs. I know it sounds like a lot, but the truth is that my collection is very insignificant compared to a few of my friends' collections. Some standouts I have are:

Beatles - Revolver (original 1966 German import edition with the apple core) - worth roughly 600-800 bucks in the pristine condition it's in.

Black Sabbath - s/t (original 1970 British first pressing edition with Evil Woman on it before they omitted it) - only 10,000 copies exist and probably less than 100 of those are in as good of shape as mine is in, worth probably 200-300 bones.

Dying Fetus - Purification Through Violence (1996 picture disc with an error) - only 1,000 of these were made and less than 50 have the printing error that mine has and mine also happens to be in pristine condition because it has NEVER left the original sleeve, no idea what it's worth exactly (probably in the 100-200 dollar range) but I wouldn't ever part with it anyway.

Enjoy collecting, bro. It's an addiction. Plus, everything made before 1987 (when studios started switching from analog to digital recordings) sounds better on vinyl anyway.

Ya. I got around 2-3 hundred LP's lying around in my garage. Mostly covering the 80's era, early to be exact. No Beatles, Bruce, Led, or anything. Just alot of Human League, Depeche Mode, New Order, and Duran Duran. Hell ya Baby!!

I collect some, but only what I like and I usually don't listen to them (unless they're not worth much, like major label LP's that were released in mass quantities). My most valuable piece is a 7" by The Misfits (I'm a big Glenn Danzig fan) titled 3 Hits From Hell. It's a limited run that was pressed on white vinyl and only 400 were released. Last time I saw Danzig I was able to get the sleeve signed by Glenn. A signed copy typically fetches over 500 on the secondary market. The Misfits are a fun band to collect because so many of their 7" were released in limited quantities and on different colored vinyl. I plan on adding to my collection with other items.

(This is not my copy, just a pic of one that just sold for 800 in February, though I think that's an aberration)

An absolute must have! I've got two copies myself, one for listening to and one that is sealed up in mint condition. Fantastic album, but it's a shame that they could never put out another record half as good as this one.

Who knew vinyl would be popular again?

I don't collect records but I still have a few records somewhere in the basement as I haven't the heart to throw them out.

BTW anyone agree with me that vinyl has a far richer and better sound then digital?

On stuff recorded before 1987 it does. After that, nope.

I was stunned that I came across it. Honestly, it's one of my all time albums.

I went digital a few years ago because I kept moving so much.

But I keep on thinking I should get back into it. I miss the feel of them.

I did in HS until I realized it was a huge waste of money for me. They're cool and all but just weren't logical for me.
