    Zombie Fire Ants?

Texas' plan to contain fire ants. Remind me of a segment of Planet Earth where the small rainforest bugs were getting taken over by fungus

Until the flies take over. Hopefully they have thought this through and researched it thoroughly before releasing them into the wild. The ants help to clean leftover/dead stuff up. You don't want to wipe them all out and introduce something to the ecosystem that shouldn't be there.

Exactly, you've got to be very careful with stuff like this. To us, fire ants may just seem annoying, but the ecosystem is something that is very delicately balanced.

Have you ever been bitten by a fire ant? How about hundreds of fire ants? Thousands? Fire Ants are evil evil creatures. The ecosystem is of little importance when you step on a fire ant hill.

            Nature is really gross.

And you know they haven't fully thought this whole thing through. What controls the flies? & do they only attack fire ants? Will they get rid of beneficial ants?

It won't be too bad. That fire ant is not native to Texas, so whatever ecosystem will be altered, it's one that's already been altered by the inclusion of this specific species of ants in Texas.

And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace

Also, how small do those maggots have to be to take 2 weeks to eat the brain of an ant? I mean, shouldn't it take 15 seconds @ most?

                  A valid point.

I think the brain is gone before the two weeks, the head just doesn't fall off until the developed fly emerges. In the meantime, the ant is wandering around without a brain.

I've got one word for you – kudzu.

Brought in to fight soil erosion, now it is strangling the south.

I am always weary when something unnatural is brought in to another ecosystem, even if it is used to combat another unnatural animal.
Overall satisfaction also makes the decline!!!!!!!!!!!!
