So for anyone who is willing to share. What business day do you guys cut things off/have to finish reporting? Is the time window completely blacked out for time off or is there flexibility. After 13 years, I'm over it 😭

Question for Finance Professionals (or Accounting)
Just a random question for those of you who might work in corporate finance or accounting. What is your month-end schedule like? I've always had the impression that my company is somewhat unique is how condensed our timelines are, but I don't have any other real reference points.

When I was involved with O'Reilly Auto on their corporate side, a mess wouldn't have been a bold enough way to describe it. We tried to curb, press and prove our efforts by the 15th of each month BUT it always had to land on a Wednesday for some reason, so the number was about as flexible as my crazy dancer ex-wife. I imagine things are run differently there now, though.😂 1 -

I have to correct myself. Our dates were the 15th and 30th but always had to be on a Wednesday, if that makes sense, because it didn't then to many in the company and doesn't to most people that want consistency and logic in their daily lives. What was written as 15th and 30th can never, ever be both on Wednesdays because weeks have seven days and months differ in total days. Some months, it would be the 15th and 29th, 16th and 30th, or 17th and 31st.
The problem occurred when, in annual reviews [which were directly tied to financial bonuses], corporate-minded jerks would hold their under-management responsible for having missed dates when thinking they were alright and going by the Wednesday persistence. It led to many confusion-caused arguments when men and women with evil minds would use it to manipulate those underneath them. It was so lovely. Predictably, it was an HR nightmare waiting to happen, and it did. That was a debacle that made me quietly thankful I resigned and moved.👍 1Comment
