Mine averages around $175, but gets up around $220 in the summer. That's with water and garbage pickup included.

Re: How much are is your electric bill a month?
It gets up to $200 or so in the summer and as low as $60 - $70 in the winter, but this is for a 2600 square foot, energy efficient house. Your AC is going to be your main cost in the summer, so if you keep your place at 68 in the summer, expect to pay some cash. If you keep it in the high 70's, you can keep it pretty minimal, especially in an apartment.
In Houston, Texas, electrcity is deregulated, so you have many providers to choose from and can basically search for the best rate and lock in a contract. When we used to live in Cali, there was one provider in our area and you were stuck with what they charged.Comment

Did you happen to read my first post? Where I noticed the mistake I made and said it was because I was typing fast and not paying attention?
Please tell me, how your post in any way helped me answer my question? Why post in a thread just to ridicule someone?Last edited by Buckeyes_Doc; 06-05-2009, 03:45 PM.Ohio State - Reds - Bengals - Blackhawks - BullsComment

Re: How much are is your electric bill a month?
A little tip from an Ex-maintenance man... Your electric bill can vary widely from the quoted estimate for a variety of reasons.
As mentioned, your ac/heat is the big item. Find out if it's a heat pump condensing unit. If it is, it does double duty by providing heat in the winter too but when the temp really drops the system has to relys on a back up heat strip which sucks up electricity.
Vacant apartments neighboring you in a poorly insulated building can also add to your bill by forcing you to pay for modulating the tempature of the adjoining wall/floor.
I could go on and on but just don't bank on the estimate being the standard monthly bill.Comment

Re: How much are is your electric bill a month?
Summer temps here are frequently 115 degrees, and in my 4BR house it takes a hellatious amount of A/C to even come close to cooling it down. We try to use fans instead for most rooms, and came up with a pretty funny little channeling setup to try to push air through hallways, etc.
But combine that with a couple of computers that run pretty much all day and a TV that's on far too much (as well as the XBox 360 or PS3, etc) and my electric bill in California has been higher than $700.
If I am under $500 in the summer I'm happy, but in the winter it goes "way down" to like $200. We've tried cutting every light we can think of and turn off the TV every single time we're not watching it (setting sleep timers, etc), but no matter what we do we're either going to bake inside of a poorly insulated house-oven at 95 degrees, or try to cool it to 75 and pay over $500 monthly.
And yeah, that hurts.Comment

The money you're spending it might be worth it in the long term to take some drastic measures to reduce your monthly bill.Comment
