Introvert or Extrovert: Which are you?

I am curious to see how many of each we have here.

It is impossible to tell over a message board.

Here is a very interesting article on 5 things extroverts should know about introverts. I find #2 to be spot on. I am an introvert and I absolutely hate small talk and find it to be pointless.

2. Introverts tend to dislike small talk.
If you really want to engage an introvert in conversation, skip the small talk. Introverts tend to love deep conversations on subjects that interest them. They love to debate, go past the superficial and poke around the depths in people’s minds to see what’s really going on in there. Most, if not all introverts tend to regard small talk as a waste of time, unless it’s with someone new they just met.

This characteristic probably contributes to another misconception that extroverts have of introverts - the misconception that all introverts are arrogant.

Why?

Because extroverts notice that introverts don’t talk that much with other people. Therefore, extroverts assume that introverts think they’re too good to talk to others, hence arrogant and that’s hardly the case.

It’s just a matter of preference.

Extroverts thrive on small talk.

Introverts abhor it.

There’s nothing wrong with either choice, it’s just a matter of preference.

Yep, I'm with you and would definitely fit into the introvert category. I sort of envy those people who are always seeking out others for conversation, meet new people very easily, etc., but it's just not in my nature since so much small talk is generally required to "open the door" to a more lasting friendship.

My circle of friends came almost entirely from classes at school since the conversation there is normally a bit more in-depth and you can get a good idea of where people stand and what kind of person they are, whereas small talk and bar/club-type interactions are very superficial and don't really give you much about the person themselves, simply how they act in a very social siaution.

Introvert. I think we are finding that introverts are more attracted to online forums for the indepth dialog that extroverts my not be interested in.

on my myers briggs type test i tested as an INFP.

Introverted Intuituin Feeling Percieving.

I also sometimes test as a ENFP, sometimes depending on my mood.

i like meeting people, i just hate small talk..

i usually scare people off because i go from..."whats up"... to "so what do you think life is all about"

A definite introvert but if I know you well I can be talkative. I hate small talk I just feel so uncomfortable. If you're going to talk to me I want it to be a little more substantial.
