This is the first time I've had this happen to me so now I'm worried that it's going to happen again if it hasn't already. Aside from closing my PayPal account and possibly changing my bank account number or just opening a new account, I'm not sure what else I should do. Anyone else had a problem with identity theft and how did you take care of it? Thanks.

Someone Has Hacked My PayPal Account!!!
So I'm checking my bank balance this morning and noticed that $33.50 came out of my account, via PayPal on June 8th. I knew that I hadn't purchased anything recently so I called my wife to check with her. She hadn't either. After a little investigating, I find that someone has purchased two Happy Holiday phone cards @ $16.75 each from www.aaphonecard.com using my PayPal account. I immediately filed a dispute claim stating that I did not authorize that payment, so now it's a wait and see process I suppose. I have a toll free # to contact PayPal but since I'm at work I can't at the moment. This sucks.

Re: Someone Has Hacked My PayPal Account!!!
Same thing happened to me but mine was to the tune of $950 by some wire transfer company. I immediately unlinked all my accounts from my paypal account and changed my password. Paypal was able to get my money back but it took almost 2 weeks. I never re-linked any account to my paypal account just to be safe.So I'm checking my bank balance this morning and noticed that $33.50 came out of my account, via PayPal on June 8th. Re: Someone Has Hacked My PayPal Account!!!
Ouch! I'm thankful mine was only $33.50, as opposed to your $950 but it still sucks. Hopefully I'll get mine back too. Right now my account is "limited" so I'm not sure if I can make any changes to it as far as unlinking accounts and so forth but I'm going to check. Re: Someone Has Hacked My PayPal Account!!!
It was RichRod!

Seriously, someone put a $150 charge on my Mastercard years ago. It ended up being for an advertisement for a newspaper in Nebraska. I live near Windsor (Detroit area)! I asked the newspaper if they thought I really would have done that. While they sort of agreed with me, they refused to refund me the money. I filed a formal dispute with Mastercard and got my money back no problem.
One of the reasons Paypal charges fees is to cover fraud. You should be able to get your money back.Comment

That bastard....first he leaves WVU and now this!!
During my lunch I was able to call PayPal and speak to someone directly and she told me that once they confirm the purchase wasn't authorized, they will refund my money. I asked her how exactly they did that (determine the authorization) and she said she couldn't go into detail but that it was nearly 100% accurate. She said it would take 7-10 days for me to get the money back but that she's confident that I would since I wasn't the one that made a purchase. I'm just really thankful that it was a small amount. Thank goodness payday is tomorrow. LOLComment

Re: Someone Has Hacked My PayPal Account!!!
Ha, try $5,000 being taken out of your account when all you have is $300.
Yeah, that happened to me last year. DIdn't even know it until paypal called me - and before I could unlink my bank account, it was already processed through the other end.
Good thing Bank of America understood and my account, after being in the negative for 3 days due to weekend, was returned to normal.Comment

Re: Someone Has Hacked My PayPal Account!!!
The same thing happened to me, but for only 20 dollars, which was refunded by pay pal anyways.
I never even used pay pal, so I took my credit card info off of there and just changed all my security questions and even my phone numbers to something stupid.

Re: Someone Has Hacked My PayPal Account!!!
It happened to me too. Over the winter I got a call and found out my paypal account was overdrawn. I don't ever keep money in it anyway, but I keep it linked to my checking account (which had no money in it either. Yay for college!) I found that I was charged $40 to some web hosting service. So I went on their site and complained via live chat. I found that the guy that did it was Chinese. The site said they'd refund it but I needed to file a claim with paypal too.
So I did that and I got it refunded.
