Highway Patrol pulls over ambulance with patient in back

I don't know if anyone else has heard about his incident that happened around two weeks ago, but the OHP has finally released the dashcam video of the entire incident.

Fire the guy and move on.

    Seems simple enough.

Re: Highway Patrol pulls over ambulance with patient in back

I was actually in a situation like this in Hawaii when i was in The Army. We were transporting Ammo to a Marine Shooting range so were not allowed to stop under any circumstances. So we were moving along and a Cop apparently did not like our Convoy stopping traffic so the Ammo trucks could keep moving. I was driving one of the Ammo trucks and the Convoy Commander said keep moving and do not stop for the police. Basically it ended when we reached the Marine post and the Cop tried arresting my LT. T

Thing about alot of the police in Hawaii is they use their own vehicles for work so there are all sorts of unmarked cop cars. So it could be hard to tell the difference between a Honolulu Cop or a Japanese Gang member dressing as a cop... It ended with a few phone calls and one pissed of Police officer. Theres not much that cop could have done though, he was outnumbered 20-1 and we had bigger guns.

          LOL.

Back to the original thing though. How can a cop pull over an ambulance for doing it's job? They're both supposed to be on the same side

If I am not mistaken the Ambulance has to obey all traffic rules. I could be wrong, but I thought they are not like fire trucks, because they are privately owned.

That is correct. But lets look at the reasonable thing to do as a cop, Tell the driver to go to the hospital, drop off the patient, and the cop will meet him there. Seriously, i understand how hard a job a Police officer is, But there is no excuse for not using your brain and making a simple decision.

The really smart thing to do is meet the EMS at the hospital and then talk to him. Seriously, this is not rocket science.

That Trooper needs to have his badge stripped. Unreal.

The ambulance did not have its lights on and they were not transporting a life threatening injury. The cop had his lights on and the ambulance did not stop and move over. The cop was right to pull them over. What happened after that though isn't on either of the videos. The cop was talking to someone else who looked to be in uniform (ambulance) then he is arresting someone else.

The cop was correct to grab the guys throat because he was resisting arrest. I don't know if the cop was correct in arresting the guy or not. We don't know what happened to create that situation. I'm sure both could have acted better, but something had to have happened.

Okay. Didn't notice the lights thing. The cop should have let them go the hospital first though and meet them there.

The cop was in the right to grab his throat? Now I seen it all. You have to be kidding me. That cop should be fire he is *** and give a bad name to cops every where. I realize you deal with asses a lot, but you have to me more respectful then that.

Yeah that throat grabbing thing is way too excessive. That and arresting him wasn't necessary at all.

I know cops put up with a lot of asses and thugs, but some are dicks and asses themselves. I don't think they have always been that way. I think the job make you that way. Not all cops, but some go that route. I think it is becasue of all the crap they have to put up with!

See, this is why there's so much strife between police and citizens. This , right here. The cop needs to lose his job. You've got a man with a gun, putting an EMT in a chokehold who's transporting a patient. Nope though! There's a union. The cop at least committed assault. And because he's a "my way or the highway cop" he didn't say "ok arrest me at the hospital."

How is he not fired? I'll never forget the Tacoma, WA police chief who beat his wife repeatedly and then nothing was done, and he killed her and himself. It's like "Wow, where do we draw the line."

If I'm the police chief , I fire him. He assaulted someone. I don't want someone with a gun who gets set off by this. But it's ok...eventually he'll put a bullet through someone's head, and cost the state or whatever agency he's wish millions upon millions of dollars.

In the other thread , we were talking about how important a cop's judgement is. By not canning this guy , it's tacit support for choking an EMT as a valid policing tactic. Was he written up even? Probably not. Gross. Too many good cops, and good men and women who want to become cops, to allow this guy. Don't forget he's got a tool to kill on his belt. Never forget that.
