I bought this as a Christmas present to myself. My first guitar.

What are some good settings to get that rockabilly/Chuck Berry sound?

If you have effects I'd use a compressor. With the right settings you can get that similar to the sound of the old timers poking holes in their amps with a screwdriver. You could also try a little distortion

I have a slapback effect that sounds pretty close to it actually. Also turned down my neck pickup a tad.

            Anybody have a hollow body?

You can't buy yourself an electric guitar for Christmas (your first) and not have an amp to go with it. My best friend gave me a gift card for Guitar Center and I used it towards the purchase of a Roland Cube 15xl amp.

Seeing him live inspired me to learn guitar, I still suck but am getting better.
I've heard this "patience is a virtue" junk all my life. I'm happy to say I have no virtue, no scruples, and no desire to wait too long for anything. In my humble opinion instant gratification takes too long!

Urrgghhh I really need to get back into my practise routine. I have my final recital coming up in February and I've gotten completely out of sync over the holiday period, only playing every few days when it really needs to be hours per day. Where is that motivation again?

Nice little amp. I've got a 30-watt Cube.

So, I've been working on this and trying to figure it out and get the melody notes down, but no dice after a couple days. I was curious if anybody could help?

                            <iframe title="YouTube video player" class="youtube-player" type="text/html" width="480" height="390" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/L2SQzjFOx7E" frameborder="0"></iframe>

Its the very first part of the video. Its the only picking pattern that isn't explained/written out in the video and I can figure most of it out just by watching, but I'm still missing some things.

Anybody know of any good sites/books to check out for theory? I have The Guitar Handbook, but haven't started reading it yet.

I wish I were good. Got an acoustic my freshman year in college but never actually learned how to play. I just read off tabs and try the best I can. Im so ashamed!
