Re: The OS Guitarists thread
Any guys have tips on the double strum? I understand the concept, but I can't consistently hit that second/third string when I'm coming back up.

Re: The OS Guitarists thread
What were the first songs you guys learned to play? Currently I'm working on Wish You Were Here, not too difficult.
Also, what kind of picks do you guys use? I'm not sure what I've been using since it was in the case with the guitar, but I need to pick up some. It says "medium" on it, but it feels pretty flexible so maybe its a celluloid?

Re: The OS Guitarists thread
I hate having short, stubby fingers. It really keeps me from learning the guitar. I just feel like I zero reach. And getting frustrated makes me want to give up trying to learn the guitar.Originally posted by CardsFan27This is the 3rd time John Calipari has been to his first Final Four! What I'm Currently Listening ToComment

Under the Bridge is another good song to learn early and get some barre chords down
Look up John Petrucci's stretching exercises. Even if you have small hands, they'll improve things a lot. Just remember to take care of your hands, because once you start doing stretching and strength work on the guitar, you can damage the muscles/tendons in your hands/fingers, so you have to approach it like working out.Comment

Re: The OS Guitarists thread
Appreciate the tip, just checked out the video. If I only knew how to play the guitar to test it out, lol.
I will say this but even playing guitar on RB and standing up for more than a few songs hurts my shoulder and back (always had back problems) and also fingers also cramp up in a bad way when playing some heavier stuff (like Rust In Peace and Flight 666) so maybe these exercises would help there if nothing else.Originally posted by CardsFan27This is the 3rd time John Calipari has been to his first Final Four! What I'm Currently Listening ToComment

Re: The OS Guitarists thread
You'd be surprised how much your hand actually stretches itself just practicing the hand positions of the chords. G used to be ridiculous for me, but I'm definitely making progress and my hand/fingers has stretched enough where G feels somewhat comfortable.

Re: The OS Guitarists thread
I clearly notice one thing is that my pinky on my left hand is basically uncontrollable. I guess I never use it so it makes sense. Did anyone ever have issues with something similar?Originally posted by CardsFan27This is the 3rd time John Calipari has been to his first Final Four! What I'm Currently Listening ToComment

Re: The OS Guitarists thread
Just try to include it more when you play.
I've played for over 4 years and there are still so many things I need to improve on. That's what I love about guitar, there's always room for improvement and always something new to learn.Huskers | Chelsea FC | Minnesota United | OmahaComment

Re: The OS Guitarists thread
I just picked up this guitar today as essentially my first "brand new" guitar I've bought.
I'm hoping that I have a fresh start, I'll be more willing to take the time and effort to practice.Originally posted by CardsFan27This is the 3rd time John Calipari has been to his first Final Four! What I'm Currently Listening ToComment

Re: The OS Guitarists thread
I stumbled onto Justinguitar.com's website a couple days ago (I know it was posted in here, but I never really checked it out) and that guy is a great teacher IMO. I'm definitely going to start using his site to help me.

Sweep picking is my nemesis. Learning it is such a pain...but then again sweeps sound soooo awesome. Must fight through the frustration.Huskers | Chelsea FC | Minnesota United | OmahaComment

Re: The OS Guitarists thread
For those of you who learned on an acoustic, what weight strings did you use? I'm using medium weight and am having a little trouble playing A after a couple minutes or so. I don't want to switch down to light, but its just kind of frustrating right now.
