Re: The OS Guitarists thread
Bump. Anybody know Where Did You Sleep Last Night? Pretty straight forward song, but I'm having a little trouble with the hammer ons in a couple sections.
Actually played through all of Wish You Were Here tonight (minus the solos). That's a first.

Re: The OS Guitarists thread
I got my results from my 1st semester recital today (I'm in my final year of a classical guitar degree) and I scored a H1, which is first class honours. I'm quite excited with that, as at the time I thought that the performance was a minor disaster.
Now only one semester to get through and I finally graduate! I have to put my head down and keep practising though, as I need to maintain my average if I want to do post-graduate study at some stage.Comment

Re: The OS Guitarists thread
This is probably a stupid question, but I just wanted to make sure before hand. Anyway, when buying an electric guitar, do they all come with a power cable or do you have to buy it separately?
Also, what strings do you guys use on your electric guitars?

Re: The OS Guitarists thread
I typically bounce back and forth between Blue Steel and Dean Markley strings (I'm cheap), both brands in 9's.Comment

Ah, right - I wasn't thinking lol. But yeah, the cable the goes between the amp and guitar.

Re: The OS Guitarists thread
I ordered a couple of slides, should be here early next week. I bought a brass one and a glass one.

Re: The OS Guitarists thread
I got my slides today - the glass one is sweet, I haven't played around with the brass one yet. Anybody play with/know how to play with a slide? Just wondering what you guys used to learn and what are some fun/simple songs to play? Working on the intro to In My Time of Dying right now.

Re: The OS Guitarists thread
I have a question for all the intermediate/advanced guitar players here. I've been playing for about 3 months now and am developing some good calluses on my index and middle fingers (ring one is coming along ok, don't use my pinky much other than for G). Over the past couple of weeks/month or so, I've noticed that after playing for a little bit my fingers start getting grooves in them which makes the strings fret out and thus makes it frustrating to play anything without having to force grip the neck. Calluses are hard above the grooves, but I don't understand why the grooves aren't hardening like the top part of my finger tips.
Anyway, I just wanted to know if this "grooving" was normal and what I, if anything, I could do to help harden my finger tips.

As far as your earlier question regarding strings, I tend to go with D'Addario Nickel Wound strings for both my guitars. I use 10-52 for my standard tuned guitar and the heavier 12-60 gauge for my drop tuned guitar(drop c).Huskers | Chelsea FC | Minnesota United | OmahaComment

What do you do? I mean, its not like I expect not to get grooves but when they get too deep to keep the smaller strings down its frustrating.

Re: The OS Guitarists thread
You are fretting notes at the furthest point you can, right? Like damn near on the fret metal of the next fret and not in the middle of the fret where it's just wood. Fretting at the furthest point makes it take less effort to get a clean ring and also, if you fret too far back you can make notes go sharp.
I don't know if that's the cause but it's the first thing to pop into my mind besides a guitar related issue.Comment
