Help, with a big decision for High School.

Okay i have a big and hard decision on which high school I'm going to. Here are my choices. (I'm a basketball player and an incoming freshman.)

Choice 1- This school is a 5A school which is the biggest you can get. All of my friends go here. There future for basketball doesn't look so bright. The campus looks like a dump(10minute drive)

Choice 2- This school is 4A. This school has been trying to convince me to go here for about a month now. I could probally make JV as a freshman. We could probally win at least 1 state champion ship. They have a 6'7" incoming freshman like me and one of the best shooters in the state coming in. I really don't know anyone at the school except those 2 players. The campus for the school just got remodeled (15-20minute drive)

Idk where to go. Any advice?

I'm leaning towards choice 1 because of all my friends, but a state championship would be nice. I just don't know anyone at choice 2.

Although I do not play basketball, and am not good enough at baseball for schools to want me to go there because of it (I am good though ), I would choose choice 1. Do you think you are good enough to play basketball on a coligate or professional level?

Professional,.no way. College, there is a possibility. I'm not talking big schools, maybe some small colleges. It depends on how i develop, though you know?

Yeah, I think a state championship, or even a good team might help you get recognized by schools. The fact that I am 15, though, puts me in no position to be giving life advice, just my input.

This doesn't even seem like a tough decision. Go with choice 2. Seems like they have a good basketball program that can develop you into a collegiate player. Also, you will get more looks from college scouts playing for a state championship caliber team.

It is so easy to make friends in high school especially when you play sports. The idea of going to a high school where you only know 2 people may seem scary, but trust me by the end of your freshman year (at the latest) you will have more friends than you know what to do with. Plus, its not like you're going to be leaving your old friends, you will still live around them right?

The fact that the school has money to remodel their campus makes me think that they have the money to pay their teachers well, have better teachers because of the higher pay wage, and therefore are a prosperous academic institution.

Choice 2. You can still hang out and talk to your friends that are going to a different school, and not knowing anyone at the new school shouldn't be an issue- freshman tend to stick together in groups of their own anyway.

Did your parents mention what school they thought was best for you? Sports are great but academics shouldn't be put on the backburner for them.

Well, as someone whose 10 year high school reunion was last year (wow, I'm getting old fast) I would tell you to go with choice one based on my own past experiences. I don't know what I would have done without the group of friends I had when I was your age, a lot of them I still have now. Basically, my point is that the friends you make during this stage of your life will be some of the most important people you'll ever meet in the grand scheme of things and you will make friends that will last you a lifetimes, whereas a sport only lasts for so long. But that's just my own opinion on the subject. At the end of the day you need to do what you think is right for you, regardless of what your parents or anybody else tells you.

Personally, I made a similiar choice a long time ago for football.

Knew it (football) wasn't going to be my long term future, so I went with the school that was recognized under the Governors program instead of the one with multiple state champiuonships.

Have never regreted having a better education.

Choice two, though I don't know all the details.

If choice once is academically superior, then I would go there. Otherwise, it sounds a bit like my situation. I went to a very small schoool through eighth grade, and then everyone pretty much went to the same high school. I went to a different one with only one other person from my graduating class because they had more computer classes and a better band program. I definitely don't regret my decision.

Granted, I wasn't super close to a lot of the people I went to grade school with, so it wasn't that big a deal to me to go make new friends. Your mileage may vary.

If the first school is a dump, I agree with the others that you should go to the 4-A school. You usually get a better education at the better looking schools.

All High Schools are the same, 15 years from now, it wont matter where you went.

Re: Help, with a big decision for High School.

i had this exact same decision when i was coming into high school but i was playing football.......i went to private school for middle school but had bunch of friends that went to local middle school due to football and basketball

School 1- Had 4 towns going into this school...most of my friends growing up with went to this school...school was more focused on lacrosse than football but all the kids i played as a youngster went to this school and we won several county championships from 12U-14U, so i figured we could just continue that with all the other kids coming into the school. This school was also a Blue Ribbon school for classes and school work.

School 2- All my cousins went to this school and all had success playing sports and went on to D1 schools. Football team is usually top county team and makes it to state tournament every year. The issue with this school was it was a dump and terrible, fights all the time and big issues with the school but they had lots of school pride.

                        - I decided to attend school 1, cause i didnt feel like making all new friends and i was more worried about social stuff than just football. Well i started 1 year on JV(team was 1-9, my first year we went 9-1) at QB ad then 1 year as sophmore on Varsity(2-8 to 7-3), well the next two years had issues with the coach and he felt i couldnt be a leader so i was moved to cornerback and hated rest of high school. Starting my junior year to everyone started to hang around different clicks so you didnt really get any high school experience, their were never really any parties with the whole class or anything.

                        - If i choose to go to school 2 i coulda started a whole new life and noone really woulda knew who i was and coulda started on Varsity my sophmore-senior year. I went to some parties with some of the kids from this school and their parties all with everyone from their class.

Go where your friends are and enjoy it. In the years after high school you're going to see them less and less then probably not at all. Have fun now while you can. Don't choose where you go to high school based on a basketball team. If you want to play in college and you're good enough you'll get noticed. Have fun and enjoy high school.

I live in AZ too (chandler,Tempe border) may i ask which schools??

Im going to a 4-A division 2 catholic school called Seton Catholic

                            Its a really good school

Going to play football as a lineman

4A schools still get recognized just not as much as 5A schools
We have a QB getting recruited all over the state for college
