Anyone else hate the way that fast food places will put "all of the above" on burgers by default? There's nothing gorsser to me than that ketchup-mayo-mustard slop... they should just go with ketchup (probably this by default since it seems to be the most popular condiment as well as having less fat than mayo) or mayo and let people live with it unless they specify otherwise.

    Yes.

I'll put ketchup with mustard, but ketchup mixed with other stuff is gross to me.

Even though I like ketchup ok, I'm pretty picky about what I'll put it on. I know a lot of people put it on eggs, but to me the thought of putting ketchup on scrambled eggs is absolutely disgusting to me. I will never try that.

I think Wendy's is the worst with the KetchMayTard! I really like Wendy's burgers, but that mixture is just kinda gross to me.

In fact, I don't put ketchup on ANYTHING (unless it sucks or is too dry and I have to eat it... in which case I might try to drown out the bad taste or moisten it up with ketchup). I don't even use A1 on steak (again, unless it sucks).

If you have to put ketchup on your burger, you're not eating the right burger.

Louis' Lunch in New Haven, Connecticut, is often credited with the creation of the first hamburger. They dont even HAVE ketchup in their restaurant. They want you to taste the meat.

It's considered a slap in the face and an insult to many cooks if you use ketchup or A1 or any other condiment. If I slaved over the grill to make a steak or burger or dog, I wouldn't want you ruining all that flavor with ketchup or mustard.
You make a good point, especially about steaks (you shouldn't use A1 or whatnot), but how many times are people here really eating gourmet quality burgers? It's either fast food or whatever ground round you pick up at the store...

I dunno, I guess I just don't think of the hamburger in the same "no condiments" level as steak.

Also, hot dogs with mustard are classic styles from various cities...not seeing how that's a "insult".

I'm not sure I'd want to eat at somewhere as smarmy and elitist as your grill, I'd feel judged by how I ate

            Hahaha

You can do what you want to your dog. I guess I went too far there. Unless it's a homemade dog from some restaurant or someones back yard or whatever, go ahead and slap something on it... not much I can do to a dog to make it "my own."

But if I'm grilling a lean burger with a certain blend of spices or a steak from a fairly expensive cut of meat, you better keep your sauces away... lol

I don't even like anything on my McDonalds burgers. I'll get a Plain Double Quarter Pounder when I go there with no concern about price or health. I don't want to taste ketchup or mustard or Mayo or anything.

Wouldn't burger people tell you not to do real lean burgers? Isn't all the flavor in the fat?

I was just kidding, imagining being at your BBQ, putting ketchup on my hotdog and getting put in a choke hold by you, holding your bbq fork thing against my neck asking if I "felt lucky" lol

Re: Do you put ketchup on your hamburger?

I think some of the best burgers I've had are just 80% lean beef with a single slice of cheese melted on them... no sauces or anything because the burger is juicy enough to flavor the bun with beefy goodness. Alton Brown made some like that for a burger episode... a lot of purists only want burgers that way.

But yeah, I always use 80% lean beef for burgers... otherwise they dry out before they're totally done (especially on a grill). And unless you're grinding your beef yourself or have a GREAT supplier, eating burgers that are medium-well or less is kinda iffy.

If it's dry, I'll throw ketchup on there. If not, all I like is some cheese, salt and pepper and maybe some mustard/honey mustard.

do not really put Ketchup on mine. Some cheese and perhaps some Mustard.

I would put ketchup on a burger every time when I used to eat them.

Being from Wisconsin, where we put cheese on everything, I can't remember when I ate my last burger that wasn't a cheeseburger. In which case, no, catchup doesn't belong on a cheeseburger.
When rookie Randall Cobb was told by this U.S. Marine that he was a big fan of the wide receiver, Cobb said, “I think I’m a bigger fan of yours.”

Don't do it. I also don't like cheeseburgers. My perfect burger is seasoned with Montreal steak seasoning then grilled, and topped with a slice or two of tomato (salted and peppered) and on occasion, some diced onions. Delicious!

An average burger needs a little ketchup. Bad ones need more, great ones need less.

The best burger is a half pound of lean but not too lean ground beef, with a slightly melted provolone/pepper jack/cheddar combination, crisp bacon, a little mayonnaise, fresh lettuce and firm tomato slices on a lightly toasted, buttered bun. Top that with one freshly fried egg... ugh OMG this.

Red Robin does this great with the Red Robin Royal Burger but making it yourself is so much more satisfying.
