    Explain late night talk shows...

    I was always under the impression that Letterman, Leno etc... are tapped eariler in the day that they are shown. But, sometimes I will see a promo the day before and they will have their guest on the commercial and it's the apperance they are promoting for the next day. But... the day the show airs, which could have been tapped a day before, they have jokes that relate to events that happened on the day it airs and not the day it was tapped.

    For example -
    Say Rainn Wilson is going to be on Letterman on Friday, yet he said he tapped his show with Letterman yesterday (unless it was just a bit outside of the show?). But, on Friday when the show airs, if something eariler Friday morning, Letterman would have jokes about it on the Friday show, yet Rainn Wilson tapped that show yesterday.

    Am I confusing myself?


    I dunno too much!

      Talk shows are filmed the day they air.

              Normally, they're taped the day that the show airs around 2:00, edited, and then aired at 10:30 or whatever. I'm sure there are exceptions to that rule, but most of the time when I hear them talk about "what time it is right now", they're talking like it's sometime in the afternoon. Jon Stewart and TDS is the same way.

                  it used to, but I believe it's taped like two hours before it airs on the east coast.

                      Most of the promos you see, where they show clips with the guests, are from past shows or appearances...most talk shows, as others have stated, are filmed the day of and edited for later that night.
