Re: What's the best radio contest/promotion you've ever heard?
There is this one radio host around here that has a game he likes to play.
He picks someone, and gets them on the line, then he calls a random number. The object is to get the person he calls to say a certain word the host picks. The contestent gets like 30 seconds to do it, without saying the word himself, of course.
The winner usually gets a pair of concert tickets or something like that. It can result in some hilarious conversations. -

Here in Houston one of the Rock stations has a few interesting things they do:
They play "Hair or Bare" where the contestant asks three female callers one question each and from that question he has to guess if they are hair or bare down stairs. If he gets two of three, he wins. If he doesn't one of the contestant wins.
They also have the "Vibe-O 5,000" where three female callers put theire pleasure toys against the phone to basically see who's is the fastest/loudest.
They also play "Are they Doin' It" where one of the female hosts brings in a Jackie Collins type novel and callers call in and guess page numbers from the book. They DJ then reads from it in a sleazy voice and if the characters in the book end up doing it, the caller wins.
Probably all typical morning zoo type stuff, but it's usually pretty entertaining.
Also, during Super Bowl week, they play Bud Bowl, where three or four contestants have to punt, pass and kick nerf footballs soaked in beer to win a plasma TV and some other cool stuff.Comment

One of the cooler promotions I remember is from a radio station back in Sacramento, CA.
You had to get qualified to win by being the 10th caller or something, and then they chose one winner.
As the winner you were given $5,000 or $10,000 to spend in one hour. However, you had to spend exactly the $5,000 or $10,000 in order to keep your gifts. If you were a penny over or under, you didn't get anything.
It sounded suspensful until the winner who was a few bucks and some change short just went to the local gas station and got exaclty the remaining amount in gas...pretty clever and I'm sure it pissed the radio station off.Comment
