Re: Those Who Have Quit Dipping Snuff
I think I was lucky. I chewed Copehagan for about 12 years and quit 3 years ago. I quit cold turkey...just decided one day that I didn't want to get lip/mouth/throat cancer. For me, it was easy to quit. I convinced myself that my mind/will was stronger than the addiction and that it couldn't beat me. Haven't dipped since that day.
One thing I did was write the day I quit on a note that was on my fridge. I did this so I could see the progress I was making. Then I wrote down the 1 month date, 6 month date and 1 year date. At that point, I was home free and didn't want it anymore at all. I also calculated approximately how much money I was saving (I went through a can about every 2 days at my worst).
That was really it for me. Like I said, I think I was lucky because I know it hasn't been this easy for a lot of people (a few of my friends included).Comment

Re: Those Who Have Quit Dipping Snuff
I have a friend at work who's best friend died from cancer they pinned on snuff. I remember my buddy coming in every single day after that with blowpops, seeds, and gum.
He's been off of it a year now but he said it was tough as heck...very happy for him.- The true measure of a man is how he treats someone who can do him absolutely no good.Comment

Re: Those Who Have Quit Dipping Snuff
When I quit for about 7 months this is what I used
It works but like I said I started back up after 7 months. Worth a shot. Most people get so used to dipping and spitting which is just as hard to kick as the addition. This will give you the feeling that you are still dipping without the addiction fix. Hope all that made sense and Good LuckTexas A&M Aggies

Re: Those Who Have Quit Dipping Snuff
I've been struggling with this for a while. It's been about 11 years off and on. Every last dip from a can I say is my last but then I buy a new one the next day or the next week. Thanks for posting that link I need to check it out.Comment

Re: Those Who Have Quit Dipping Snuff
Good post and I bolded my favorite part. That's what it comes down to whenever you're kicking a bad habit (not just smoking, drugs, but any bad habit). You have to be strong, mentally. Instead of acting on the impulse of wanting another smoke/can/whatever it is, think about it and remember that you have to fight it down. You'll feel better on the inside knowing that you have control.I think I was lucky. I chewed Copehagan for about 12 years and quit 3 years ago. I never really saw many people dipping, but recently I've seen more and more of it. Don't know if it's going to become a problem, but I'm seeing my friends do it a lot more then before.NHL - Philadelphia Flyers

Re: Those Who Have Quit Dipping Snuff
For real though... I agree with what was said.
Tell yourself that you're a man (or woman, depending on who is reading) and there is no way in hell some little product sold for $1.99 is going to get the best of you. We are living, breathing, thinking organisms.
It's not easy, but it's a mind over matter type deal. And sunflower seeds have been what I've seen my friends that quit have used. Horrible english in that sentence.
Good luck to you, now please excuse me while I enjoy my Grizzly.badComment

Re: Those Who Have Quit Dipping Snuff
I did it cold turkey, no biggie. I was never a huge dipper though, only when I was bombed and someone had a tin. I bought one tin in my life so basically I was a mooch. I'll probably do it again at some point in my life, packing a few lips a year isn't gonna give me cancer."You make your name in the regular season, and your fame in the postseason." - Clyde Frazier
