    Barter with Gamestop?

OK, I've got a scenario for you:

I've been a customer of Gamestop's for many years. Bought new and used games (and systems) and traded in tons of games. Lots of money has been exchanged between us.

Recently, they ran a deal where MLB 2k9 was marked down to $19.99. I was on vacation that week and wasn't aware this deal was out there until I checked my e-mail and saw it on OS after returning from vacation (no GS where I was vacationing).

I'd like to pick that game up (I know people here love it or hate it; I just want to try it for myself) but don't want to pay the $39.99 price tag for it.

So, since I've been a long-time customer, you think I can talk one of the employees into giving me the game for the deal they had a few weeks back?

I have many doubts about this one, but you only know if you try. Just don't be too crushed when they say no.

A buddy of mine was able to get Fallout 3 for $29.99 in store when it was an online deal only. Does not hurt to ask. The worse they can say is not they can not do it.

When I worked at Gamestop it was apparent that the manager had some ill defined room to work with on certain pricing/purchases.

It was not something I was ever advised on.

I doubt it. You'll probably just get the "Sorry, we can't help you." Maybe if you knew the manager or something, but they don't really give a hoot about your history or "loyalty" to the company.

You might be able to find the game online cheap anyway.

Depends on the manager and how good you are in with them. Some managers are really cool and know that you are a frequent customer who drops a lot of money in the store so they'll make sure you're happy.

That's a long shot though probably. Even the coolest of managers won't jump at giving a game for half price like that.

Yeah I have found that it is really up to the manager. Some are really cool. Others not. Some are sucking on the corporate hog a little too tight.

I have had some luck getting games cheaper or in the least when trading in other games getting a little more added to the price off.

They can help you out a little. I remember a few years ago I brought in a bunch of games to trade in to by one of the college hoops games I think. I ended up being a little short, by like $5 or something but they gave me it anyway.

Doubt they'll give you $20 off though. IMO 19.99 is 19.99 too much for that game though.
