Advice: To Attend or not.

One of my best friends Mom died the other day. Thing is I haven't talked to this dude in over a year. One of the last times we saw each other we got in a drunken fist fight which pretty much ended our friendship (yes it was over a girl).

He was my best friend from the time I was 19-26 but we haven't talked in a long time (even before the fist fight). But I knew his Mom well and his Dad fairly well back in the day.

I am not a funeral guy. When my two good friends (my drummer and my best friend growing up) committed suicide I didn't go to their funerals. But I was young and strung out at the time.

Anyway I just was hoping for some advice. If I show up will it be a good thing or a bad thing for my friend (considering our shakey past)?

I would show up...his mom is irreplaceable, and if you go it should make him happy, during a rough time like that.

Go. Just go. If she meant anything to you, go and show support for her. I think it will mean alot to your friend. I couldnt imagine him seeing you and getting mad. IMO going dispite not getting along means more than goin when you guys are best friends.

I say attend. He's either glad you're there, or he fights you and blows off some steam. Win win.

Yeah I just found out it is at 9:00 am tomorrow morning. I am thinking I will be going. Now i have to drive 2+ hours bright and early tomorrow.
