I'm not sure if your original post was an inside joke or just an unfinished thought or what, but I think I'd classify myself as a pretentious pop culture snob if anything.

I remember being at a social gathering where my ex-girlfriends' new boyfriend was trying to enlighten a group of women of who Flavor Flav was and what he did to become famous (before VH1). Sounding like a college professor with a degree in hip-hoppetry, he began to spout some smart sounding nonsense like, "Well, as matter of fact, Flavor Flav got his start as a member of the gangster rap group N.W.A." to which I obviously interjected with, "What?! Dude, no, no, no, no, no. C'mon, Flavor Flav was a member of Public Enemy, he was a full continent over from N.W.A.!"

For some reason I thought the women would appreciate the fact that I knew my hip-hop and thusly think less of this square dating my former, but in reality they all gave me frightened looks at my small outburst and apparently respected this guy even more than they already did because he didn't waste his time brushing up on basic every-man hip-hop facts. I hate that guy.
