Girl found alive after 18 year abduction period

Before reading this, let me inform you that this article is kind of weird. It doesn't really answer any questions nor does it explain what prompted her to go into the police station now and not any other time prior to:

It has a lot of holes indeed. No updated pictures, quotes, anything. For such big news back in 1991, it sure doesn't resurface as such today.

And I'm kind of surprised no one made a thread about the high school pipe bombing thing either, considering it was at... not my high school, but one that I could have gone to since it's so close and I know many people that go there.

Don't a lot of them end of sex slaves and strung out on drugs to control them? That was always the urban legend I heard.

The Sex Slave trade is supposed to be really big still.

I would imagine the mental shock for those involved will be huge. They knew her so long ago and have missed out on much of her life while she suffered. All those hopes and dreams are smashed. They now have to cobble together some semblance of a life with these twisted pieces.

Actually have not. I just remember people saying that stuff when Natalie Halloway was murdered/ possibly sold into slavery. I think Nancy Grace was going crazy about this lead.

In fact I didn't see it because of the slavery thing. It makes me queasy and uneasy, even though its a fake story.

Rape, Torture and Slavery are three things that make me beyond uncomfortable in movies. I remember when I saw the Hills Have Eyes and and got creeped out big time.

This story really makes me disgusted. I've got a 4 little 4 year old blonde daughter and I am fearful to let her out of my sight. Now reading this, it apparantly doesn't matter if they are in your sight. They really need to apply the death penalty for crimes against children. Too much of this garbage going on and too many times its someone who has done crap before and been released.

I remember this story from when she was kidnapped. Glad she's alive & can be reunited w/her family. I believe on the news last night that they said he kept her hidden in a barn/shed in the back yard.

I saw this on CNN yesterday, and read the updated report this morning.

We don't know why Dugard only comes forward now after being abducted 18 yrs ago, but the man who abducted her (Garrido) is a lunatic.

In the CNN article he was stating that (paraphrasing) he had done some bad things, but made it all-right when he fathered those two girls and treated them as his daughters instead of I guess sex-slaves.

Does this idiot really think that is going to build a character defense for him?

I just wonder what the transition for these two young girls and the now 29 yr old Dugard (The one abducted in '91) will be like.

Will the girls have some (sick) attachment to the man that fathered them? This has got to be a very tough and trying time for the family that lost their 11 yr old daughter in '91.

I am beyond sure that they are ecstatic to have her back, but I cannot fathom with how to deal with this and how everything is explained to these young teens who've never even been to school. ..."These are your grandparents"...It's just crazy.

There should be a special hell reserved for guys like Garrido, and IMO they should get the worst our legal system has to offer.

From what I understand, she didn't come forward. Her kidnapper had to come to the police station for another situation & he admitted to kidnapping her. That's the impression I got from the news last night.

I doubt he is in anywhere close to a sane state of mind. Trying to figure out what was going through his head just won't work with us because we have absolutely nothing similar to it.

He may believe he is sane, but in the end he is delusional.

Yea...you're right...reading the updated story on CNN this morning it said something about the Garrido dude going to UC-Berkley (?) to give a speech/hand-out literature.

His two daughters were with him, and police officers there were suspicious of their behavoirs around Garrido. Which lead to an investigation, and his parole officer getting involved, which lead to finding out about this compound.

They then posed questions to Dugard (The 11 yr old abducted in '91), and she would be the only who could answer these questions. Which preliminarily confirmed to them she was in fact that 11yr old girl abducted in '91.

Now they're just waiting on DNA to confirm her identity, but the two girls are in fact his through DNA confirmation.

Great work by the officers which approached Garrido, and reacted on instincts to notice the obscure behaviors by the two teenage girls. :wink:

Same here. Still hard to comprehend. I can only imagine how emotionally scarred that girl will be for the rest of her life. I don't think any amount of psychological help will erase what happened. Just a horrifying story.
