I've only missed work once (left early being sick one day though (and was sick)), and that was because I was driving my gf to college.

So, no, I haven't lied, but I'm no saint, either.

Did once at a temp job about 5-6 years ago, but not since. I don't get much PTO at my current job, so I usually try to save it for vacation and days when I truly need it.

I haven't been with the company long, but I get a decent amount of PTO throughout the year..Two weeks of vacation, two personal days, two floating holidays, and five sick days.

I once called in to tell my boss I couldn't come in because I had a really good time at a Redskins game. His response was "John you've got to make up a better excuse than saying your hungover", "I said I've got a really bad headache and my stomach hurts", "I feel sick". He said "That works...ok...see you tomorrow".

Needless to say he was a cool boss.

Didn't we just have a thread about using excuses to get off work?

It's hard though...especially when I got my neighbor playing their franchise across the street...maybe I will occupy myself with Glamore Magazine.

              LOL.

I had a cool boss as well. I never called off the day of, I just would preemptively tell him on occasion I would be taking PTO on Monday, and in a small office there was no secret what the reasoning was.

Some would say I sleep, eat and play video games.(cops and the city bean counters)
Some would say I risk my life and limb.(wives, children and good people )
It's somewhere in between(closer to the sleep eat and play video games)
                New York City Fireman.

I would refer the former to this.
A fireman's mother and a friend were talking when a firetruck rolled by. The friend said to the fireman's mother..."you're son is so lucky, he gets to do practically nothing all day and gets paid for it. There are hardly fires anymore"....to which the mother replied..." Do you want to see my son work more?.....Go set your house on fire."
