Re: When to use Ma'am or miss?

I usually will say ma'am, but I've been trying to say miss more as it makes females feel good to be called young and if you needed something, they will be more inclined to help.

If you can't see their face/tell their age, always err on the side of calling them young.

Now that I think about it, I do use ma'am. Never really realized it.
"It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace

"You'll not find more penny-wise/pound-foolish behavior than in Major League Baseball." - Rob Neyer

I dont use any of that, never have. I have never been disciplined to say ma'am or sir.

It's the way I was raised. I even call co-workers that as well. Close friends...sometimes. It's always thank you sir as opposed to thanks man.

If they say it makes them feel old I still call them that, they can get over it.
This is how I was brought up as well...I'm amazed at the kids/teenagers that show no respect for elders (not elderly, elders).

It's hard though...especially when I got my neighbor playing their franchise across the street...maybe I will occupy myself with Glamore Magazine.

I don't think NOT saying sir or ma'am means you don't have manners.

You can do without saying it

LOL I wouldn't say ANY of those things. You act as if the options you gave me are the ONLY things I could say.

I would say, "Hi how are you doing."
