$250 for one of my three Calculus books, all for the same class. It came out to total something like $450 for that one class. Damn.

Re: Fellow College Students, What is the most expensive textbook you had for a class

I just graduated this summer but the most expensive book was around $225. I did not buy that however, I just used the reserve desk at the library and read whatever I needed to before class.

The campus bookstores charge outrageous prices for the textbooks. I remember someone in class saying he had shelled out $650 at the bookstore for that semester of textbooks. I'm not sure I spent that much in four years.

But yeah for anyone still getting bent over, I'd highly suggest international editions ($175 for the U.S. edition of O. Chem and mine was like $50 or so), ebooks, or just using the library reserve desk (best option IMO since it's free and everyone buys the books anyway so there is no 'competition' for using the library's book).

On the note of college expenses, it's ridiculous how the price of college has increased the past few years. By junior year the price to go half time was the same as going full time in my freshman year.

While I was in college (graduated this past May) I had a $400 stipend for books each semester but still had to spend another $100-$300 more to pay for all of my books. My current unemployed status only furthers the feeling that I was ripped off.

Yeah it's always fun graduating and not finding a job. . .I'm in the same boat for now.

I paid $140 for my math book. Then also in my History of East Asia class we had to buy 7 books, that came out to $300 total and I still had to buy $250 more dollars worth of books.

How about $60 for a ****ing reader for my Political Theory class!?! It's 5 "topics", each with about 5 photocopied articles stapled together with a table of contents. You've got to be kidding me. Just give us the names of the articles so we can get them online instead.

I found them to be perhaps one of the worst ideas in college history in addition to being one the biggest wastes of time and money. Asking questions about material covered 10 minutes ago was a horrible idea for me because I was so busy recording notes I did not have the opportunity to absorb all the information. I essentially had to drop fifty dollars to make my classroom experience 89 times worse.
Yeah, my college (Nebraska) uses clickers, but not for grading purposes. They're used to take attendance and if a lot of people miss the question they might go over the material again to help us understand it. Nothing like what you mention, however.

And my highest textbook was $169 so far but I had a $146 macroeconomics book for which I also had to buy the study guide which was $50. Textbook prices are absolutely ridiculous.

Oregon uses them the same way. They are expensive and a pain in the *** to remember. But they usually only use them for intro classes.

I'm sure I spent a fortune on my Math and Comp Sci books.

But boy, did they sure do wonders for me.

$200 for a Food Analysis textbook

Coming in a close 2nd is $160 for a freaking 12'' by 8'' measly 400 page Food Quality Assurance book.

BS! I got so ripped off this year. Now that I'm into my major related courses, you just don't see used book options.
