    Homework help

What's crackin fellas? I'm an English/journalism/history guy through and through, but haven't taken a legit science class in years. I'm taking a pretty basic one this year but I still can't wrap my head around anything that has to do with numbers. I have pictures and powerpoints and notes that I'm looking at to help me, but if anyone can help me out with some answers (just one for now but I'm sure I'll need more in the future) I'd appreciate it. I'm not just looking for a cheap answer, I just want to grasp it a bit. I don't intend on doing anything scientifical, but I still want to ace this course.

    1. Suppose you were an alien living on the fictitious warlike planet Myrmidon and you wanted to measure its size. The Sun is shining directly down a missile silo 1000 miles to your south while at your location, the Sun is 36o from straight overhead. What is the circumference of Myrmidon? What is its radius?

I honestly barely remember how to get the circumference of something, even though I have this formula in front of me I just can't fully digest it. I know that Circumference = 2(pie)R.

Seems like a lot to ask put I know this is pie (no pun intended) for you numbers people.
Thanks in advance. Of course, this is open to anyone trying to get some help.

    Re: Homework help

Think of it like this. You should be able to figure out the rest.

The planet is a circle, made up of 360 degrees. If the silo is 1000 miles south, and the sun is 36 degrees off 90, then 36 degrees = 1000 miles.

And in case you run into any big math losers, make sure you spell it "pi," not "pie."

            I'm a nerd, but I didn't get that much. I got 3.14159 and called it a day.

I think I know 3.1415926... then the next digit might be 5 or 7 or something.

                    Re: Homework help

OK so what do we have for this one? I feel like I have the answer if I could digest these formulas but I just can't. Is there a basic explanation?

--- How did Newton deduce that the force of gravity obeyed an inverse square law?

                    Thanks guys.

Read your textbook or look it up instead of asking for help on a sports gaming website.
