Coffee (and alternate forms of energy)

As many of you know from the thread I made, I'm in law school now. It takes up basically my entire day, reading, writing and studying. The material isn't the most fun stuff to read either, and requires almost 100% concentration from me to get through some of it.

I've tried napping, but I stay drowsy most of the day afterward making it hard to get back into that study mode again.

I've never been a big caffeine guy or energy drink guy, but today I decided to get a frappuccino out of the vending machine and I felt like Will Ferrell in Kicking and Screaming after he went to Starbucks. I was much more focused, energized and in an overall better mood. I've tried to avoid caffeine my whole life as a source for energy, but it feels like a necessity at this point.

What I'm wondering is what you all do for energy throughout the day. Before work, during work and after work. Stuff that keeps you going but doesn't kill your body, doesn't cause crashes/jitteriness and doesn't keep you up into the wee hours of the morning. I want to be at the top of my game for at least 8 hours of the day (10-6) so I can be as productive as possible while I'm at school.

Before I work out I usually take a 5 hour energy drink. They work great. Even if I don't work out and I take one, like if I'm tired during a class or something, I never have a "crash" and I don't get jitters, so give it a try!

Re: Coffee (and alternate forms of energy)

Now that I'm close to the coffee capital of the US, and having to wake up at 5:30 every morning, I started to drink espresso. My girl has a espresso maker so I have one on my way to work.

I've never had coffee on a regular basis, can't stand energy drinks...but so far so good.

And let me just say getting up early sucks. I don't know how people do this 5 days a week for 20+ years!

I'll usually go with Folgers in the morning. Starbucks double-shots when I'm out or at work (I think I'm addicted to those). And the occasional Bawls. I've never tried the 5 Hour Energy...for some reason I think it will be excessive.

I go for a Timmy's coffee in the morning at around 8 before class, then maybe another coffee during lunch depending on whether I'm worn out or not. Then after classes at 5:30, if I'm studying hard that night I'll have a Monster Energy drink. They have a lot of taurine, which really helps me concentrate (whereas caffeine just keeps me awake). I'm not a huge fan of the 5 hour energy, just because I can't really control the effect. Even when I take it with food, i seem to peak about an hour afterward, and slow down after that, while w/ a Monster, I can be half done my energy drink after an hour, and prolong my peak efficiency longer.

Anyone who needs energy and doesn't take Sudafed should probably just kill himself or herself.

Haha I'm on 1st shift for training: 6am-2pm...it sucks!

I get cut loose in a week, 2pm-10pm...much better.

Oh and I'm 24 and have never taken a sip of coffee. I have the option of getting free coffee pretty much anywhere I go, but I don't even want it!

Those things are horrible IMO. I understand that it truly is to be taken like a "shot glass" but it ain't worth the $3-3.50 for one bottle.

It's hard though...especially when I got my neighbor playing their franchise across the street...maybe I will occupy myself with Glamore Magazine.

I am bothered that nobody offered any natural forms of energy.

EAT breakfast. This will help you out a lot. Most folks don't eat breakfast. EAT BREAKFAST.

You have to eat food to be energized. Leave the coffee and 5 hour energy gimmicks alone man. That stuff isn't beneficial to your temple
