Your Baby Can Read
This is for the dads and moms who want to get a jump on the educational route for their kid. I started my child on these dvds finally and she's getting into them. She does little things that make me excited when we're watching the dvds. Was wondering if anyone else is using this? Also giving a guys a heads up for those who may want to get something beneficial for their child. I know that the posters here have been popping out a few seeds lately.

Re: Your Baby Can Read
I was considering on getting this for my daughter as she's about to turn 2 and she's developing a good amount of words in her vocabulary. She can say words but I really need her to start making sentences. Maybe I might be a little too anxious but I think if this kit was what they advertise it for, she should be able to read before she's 3 years old. This is for the dads and moms who want to get a jump on the educational route for their kid. $200 bucks is really going to hurt me in the pocketbook but if it is good as advertised then it'll be all worth it.I have more respect for a man who let's me know where he stands, even if he's wrong. Than the one who comes up like an angel and is nothing but a devil. - Malcolm XComment

Re: Your Baby Can Read
Parents will buy anything that has a baby's face on the cover.... the Mozart effect comes to mind. Now, to be honest, I know nothing of this product or what it claims to do, but I find it hard to believe that they're actually reading; but more so recognizing shapes of words and repeating sounds. Designed for kids 3 months to 5 years (as per its web site)? 3 months??
Hmm... based on some reviews, it sounds like it actually does work. Granted most of the reviews had started ~2 years of age. I haven't heard/read anything about 3 month olds tho...Last edited by rubisco43; 09-23-2009, 10:32 AM.Comment

Re: Your Baby Can Read
Where did you get that from?
I just don't understand why a baby would learn to read. We started basic reading in kindergarten and learning to read books in first grade. Aside from the kids with August and September birthdays (they were a few months older than most, which at 6 or 7 makes a big difference), everyone went about the same.
It seems to me to be the academic equivalent of the dad who has his kid start working out in 5th grade. Sure he may dominate little league, but by high school the playing field is evened out.
This is essentially artificial intelligence (not in a computer sense). The kid isn't actually any smarter than other kids (as would be the case of a kid learning to read on his own at such an age in the case of the 15 year old college students), he just acquired a skill that every other kid will acquire 1-3 years earlier than the rest of the kids. While first grade may be easier, I would reckon that there remains little advantage at the high school level.
I will look for data to prove my hypothesisComment

I feel the same way. Seems like a tall order for a 3 month old. I have a 5 month old (3rd child) and I just couldn't picture it. Not saying it's not true.
