I think I get what you're trying to say here, but it really doesn't work. Jordan still has a contract.

The real issue for a Michael Jordan is his contract (during his playing time) had a limit. He was paid what he was paid. It didn't matter if he averaged more points per game, if his team won 72 games, or if they won the championship. He was paid what his contract says he is paid.

Tiger Woods, on the other hand, is paid as much as he plays and wins. There is no cap on his earnings as an athlete.

But the real reason Tiger is a billionaire before Jordan is what everyone else has stated: the golf courses he "designs", the merchandising, the stature in the sport - a sport he dominates on his own. As great as Jordan is, he wasn't the NBA. There are fans buying jerseys from other guys, buying sneakers from other guys. If you want golf equipment or merchandise, you buy Tiger Woods and no one else.
"It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace

Jordan may have been the highest paid player on his team. But how big of a percentage was his salary in comparison to the team's earnings? Woods, in himself, is a franchise. He only tips his caddy 10% & the rest is his. All of his expenses are taken care of by sponsors.

Tour money is a drip in the bucket for Mr. Woods. All his endorsement deals are were his makes his real money.

Im still curious to see if the PGA can find another Woods before he goes. In all honesty, he is the only reason I watch Majors and Golf in general.

        Love to play it though.

Tiger says he's not a billionaire.
