It is no "wive's tale", eat these at your own risk. I can get away with eating a tomato on a sandwich every so often, but believe me you will know when you have over done it.

Plus the more stuff that you eat and that catches in the diverticuli can eventually cause abscesses or peritonitis to develop in the colon if not monitored.

Fiber is the main thing though...the higher the fiber in your diet the less work your intestines have to do. From what I understand doctors believe that diverticuli are formed by high pressure in the intestines.

You should be good on the milk too, I eat a bowl of cereal every morning. I don't drink milk like I did when I was a kid but I do have some every day with no ill effects.

      The evidence says wive's tale.

Context Patients with diverticular disease are frequently advised to avoid eating nuts, corn, popcorn, and seeds to reduce the risk of complications. However, there is little evidence to support this recommendation.
Conclusions In this large, prospective study of men without known diverticular disease, nut, corn, and popcorn consumption did not increase the risk of diverticulosis or diverticular complications. The recommendation to avoid these foods to prevent diverticular complications should be reconsidered.

Went to Dr. today after only 2 hours of work started it to throbbing in pain. So it's my third out of work and what seems like a higher priority to get a colonostomy as soon as the pain subsides. The Doc said she doesn't want to risk a camera while it's inflamed. And for some reason, no more antibiotics.

Is there some kind of colon cleansing that you can have done? Maybe look into that, ask your doctors first though.

I actually cared for a woman who had a sigmoid resection recently for diverticulosis. Good luck with that.

If you don't mind me asking Deadduck, when is your colonoscopy scheduled?

Today, I'm re-CT scaning with or without contrast. (whatever is the opposite of last time). And I see a specialist on Tuesday, who will set the dates for the colonoscopy and/or any other testing.

It's my second colonoscopy, I had one back in 2003 for blood in the stool which at the time came back clean.

An update for anybody who cares...

Second CT was clear. Real clear, like I don't have diverticlosis clear... but that just means they have not idea what the issue is now. Colonoscopy is scheduled for 30th because he want's any possible inflamation to go "down".

So now I'm suppose to be eating low fiber/low fat until then. Going to be a fun time restocking the house for ANOTHER dietary change.

My dad has this, and he can't eat peanuts, tomatoes, corn, and anything with seeds. Even popcorn, which sucks, because he used to always eat popcorn.
