Human Garbage = Baby Bird Food

Disturbing (not gory or anything, just make me sad) pictures of dead baby albatrosses filled with human garbage that their parents fed them after collecting it in the open ocean. These were taken in one of the most remote marine locations in the world, more than 2000 miles from the nearest continent.

Disgusting what we're doing to the oceans... the floating island of plastic circling around in the Pacific is just the start of it. We recycle the plastic bottles but throw away the caps... here's where they all end up:

    That sucks.

edit: looking at the picture and the pavement there im wondering just how remote the area is... Not that that really matters or anything. its still depressing.

Pretty damn remote I'd say, pavement and famous WWII battle or not: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Midway_Atoll

Man. Just read the wiki on that. That is just sad. Scary how the plastic can enter the food chain and will basically never go away unless humans go clean it up.

That Picture has got to be a fraud. I am not doubting the rediculous pollution in our Oceans, But a bird would not eat a lighter. Birds are highly evolved animals, they have been eating the same food for thousands of years. I just do not see how or why a Bird would eat a lighter. It looks nothing like food, it does not smell like food, and I can almost gaurentee it does not taste like food.

Then again this could be a stupid bird eating a lighter, thus confirming Darwins theory.

When I was really young, my family went on vacation to California. One of the lasting images from that vacation was all the trash floating in, I believe it was a bay. Don't remember where exactly (we visited San Francisco, Monterey, and Sacramento), but it was nasty. Sad. I've never heard of the Great Pacific Trash Island until now, so I did a little Google Images search on it. That's disgusting.

Albatrosses pick things that float out of the ocean... all this crap floats and is generally brightly-colored and attracts their attention. Why/how would this guy fake all of these pictures (there are like 30 of them in different locations with completely different stomach contents)... is Wikipedia in on it too with their article on the Pacific Gyre with an accompanying picture of a baby albatross and its plastic stomach contents?

It's not fake dude. And this doesn't confirm Darwin's anything because it's unnatural intervention in their environment.

I would say that i can't belieive what i just saw but most people dont care about their environment until they're directly affected so get i 10 years and i can only imagine
