Ever Get Someone In Trouble On Their Job?

Hopefully, the kid doesn't lose his job but his failure to do his job has cost me. I apologize in advance for the long post lol. Here's the story.

Two weeks ago, I left my almost 2 year old HP laptop running while I went out to run an errand. When I came back, it was very hot! I shut it down and turned a fan on it to cool it down. I turned it on about an hour later and it was fine. The next day, I turned on my laptop and Windows would not finish loading. I tried to do a system restore and it told me that the disks were not compatible with it. It wouldn't restore. Here's where it gets interesting.

I took it to a local repair shop in my neighborhood to see if they could do a system restore. I took it at lunch hoping to pick it up after work. The techie said it'll be ready in 3-4 hours. So after work, I go to pick up my laptop and when I get there am told that it's not ready and that the install isn't working with the disk. He never called to tell me he was having issues restoring it. He said he's try to download Vista from the network they have and install it that way but it wouldn't be ready til the next day. Next day comes and goes and I call before going up there. Still no go, tells me there is a known issue with the model HP notebook I have where it overheats and the soldering comes off some of the parts on the mob (common 360 issue). It's not cost effective to repair and would be better off getting a new one. He had told the same thing to this lady who also brought in an HP similar to mine. The repair was almost $400. BTW, when he couldn't get the OS to install I asked him, COULD THE PROBLEM BE WITH HDD? He said, no it's fine. On top of that, charged me $25 just babysit my laptop for 2 days.

So, now i'm without a laptop and my desktop is 8 years old. So, I bite down real hard and go buy a new Toshiba laptop for the repair cost.

So this weekend, I decided to remove the 120GB HDD from my then dead HP notebook and install in my PS3. I did the install and fired up Uncharted 2. Right away, I noticed that the game would start stuttering, the music would start repeating itself from time to time. The game would freeze up. I started wondering if the HDD was bad. I disconnect the PS3 and after about 15 minutes, It had ran HOT.....JUST LIKE MY HP Notebook! I put the 40gb HDD back in the PS3 and everything was fine. No issues. I diagnosed my own issue.

For good measure, this evening, I went to the repair shop, saw a nice Mercedes parked outside and i'm thinking, I hope the owner of the shop drives that car. Went in side and yes, the owner was there. Explained the issue with my laptop and the diagnosis I was given. Explained to him what happened when I installed the HDD in the PS3. So the owner takes a HDD out of one of their used laptops and installs it in mine and what do you know, my HP Notebook boots up without a hitch! The owner starts getting pissed I could tell but he had a smirk on his face the whole time. He explains that he is supposed to get the final word on ALL HARDWARE ISSUES before it leaves the shop because that's what he does all day. He acknowleged that he never got to look at my computer and he doesn't know why but it will be investigated thoroughly. He went on to say, that he didn't know who looked at my notebook. I interrupted him, "it was that young man right behind you!" Of course the kid acts like he didn't remember me or my laptop.

For my troubles, the owner gave me the the 250gb hard drive free and will be doing a reinstall because it's not clean. He kept saying he's going to find out how the error was made. The kid in that shop was looking shook as hell. I hope he doesn't lose his job but he has cost me money. I am returning the Toshiba I bought but it is gonna cost me a 15% restocking fee. Better than the money I spent for a new one as it was definitely not in the budget. Sorry for the long post but i'm just ecstatic right now. I went in there to prove a point, really hoping I was wrong especially since I spent the coin on a new laptop. Don't like the experience but I must say I'm pleased with the end result.

LOL you got that dude fired for sure if he wasn't related to the owner. But at least this was a legit gripe. I worked some store jobs before and use to see customers get people in trouble over BS, like waiting too long to be serviced even though it is 25 customers and only 2 workers in that area.

You didn't get the kid in trouble, he got himself in trouble.

      You did nothing wrong.

I see nothing wrong with this. It was the kids fault, if you are going to take a high pressure job then you better be able to produce. Or I am sure MacDonald's is hiring. In all seriousness you did nothing wrong, but that was funny when you pointed him out. Most likely the kid news the owner pretty good and could be family too. The owner might have been telling you what you want to hear. Must owner will lie their asses off. So i wouldn't worry about unless you see the kid working at a McDonald's, then I would not order my food there.

Most definitely......because if he see you or hear your voice ordering, he is going to use his own special sauce on your order.

Yup. I feel bad because the guy might be out of a job in these tough times, but he didn't do his job right on some expensive technology. I'm sure he knows he messed up, so if he isn't just a total moron, he'll accept whatever consequences comes his way and hold no ill will toward you if you ever meet up in the local Mickey D's.
