What's everyones view of allowing yoru dog to sleep in your bed? Sometimes my dog growls at me (not necessarily on the bed, just anywhere) and my co-worker says it's because I allow him in the bed and he thinks he is my equal because of that. I've read about it on the net and the issue seems split 50/50 as to whether to allow the dog on the bed or not and how that affects the wolf pack dynamic.

My pug sleeps in his create but, sometimes I will allow him to get in bed when I'm watching TV or something. As far as my, my Pit Bull he sleep's on a dog bed beside my bed. He'll usually hop in my bed at night (to tell us good night) and after a few minutes I'll tell him to get down and he will.

I read somewhere it's not good to let them sleep with you but, sometimes I'll give in. Another thing I've read is to feed them after you eat so, that they know you are "the leader of the pack". Also, lay them on their back and rub their belly at least once a day. It show's your dominance plus, they like it.

I'd say it is 50/50 too. I wouldn't worry about it. We allow our dog to sleep on our bed and it isn't an issue.

As long as you're tough with him and make sure he doesn't do anything wrong I don't see an issue.

My dogs will get in the bed with me when I'm watching TV or playing PS3 or something, but when it is time to go to sleep I put them in their room. Not because of any master/dog principle, but because there's not enough room in the bed for me, my wife, and two dogs. If I was single, I'd probably let them stay in the bed though.

I don't let out dogs sleep on the bed with us. Mostly because when they stretch out there is no room for me and my GF, so I axed that when we moved in together.

Man, I received some horrible news last night.

My parents have this yellow lab that lives with them out on the farm and I can't help but get excited about seeing that dog every time I return home for a bit. I know my dad would spend large amounts of time with that beast out in the front yard every night after work as well.

It turns out that my parents went out of town for a few hours, leaving the lab unleashed as usual, and upon return could not find him anywhere. We're not sure if he just ran too far and can't find his way back, or if hunters/coyotes/vehicles may have something to do with his absence.

It just sucks. It has been 24 hours now and we are all starting to worry. I am still trying to remain hopeful, but man.... I just can't imagine losing that dog.

we had a German Shepherd as a kid that would freak out during a bad storm. One time she ran away and didn't return for almost a week.
