Did you ever play with or against a pro athlete in High School?

While I was in high school I played against Landon Powell (of the A's) and Gavin Floyd.
Powell hit a bomb off us while I was playing first, and I got extremely lucky and threw my bat out against Floyd and hit it down the right field line for double.Comment

Forney, TX
I played with a potential professional track and field athlete.
I wasn't in HS yet, but I got to watch Bears QB Caleb Hanie, sprinter Dabryan Blanton and numerous MLB pitchers.Comment

Well I am good friends with a few professional Lacrosse players.
But In football I played against Jolon Dunbar who plays for the Saints. When we played against him i do not remember him being a great LB, but this guy was an incredible HB.My dog's butt smells like cookiesComment

They said athletes.
j/k
Played one on one against a pro basketball player who went to play overseas. He taught me to play defense and I was 10x better after that one day.
Played against Richard Jeter at my NYSC a few years ago. Did pretty well, actually. Could consistently break him down off of the dribble. I started to really believe in my handles after that day. http://www.nba.com/playerfile/richard_jeter/
My boys played semi regularly with Ron Artest and are decent friends of his, but I wasn't around when they were doing so. They were better players than me, and they got murdered, so I'm not too disappointed, haha! Well...one of them is better than me, but the best guy out of the three of us got killed, and he scored 44 points at the Rucker or something.Comment

I got ran over by Earl Campbell's kid and almost threw up. I think I cried a little afterward too.
I was sick the day my team was supposed to play Lake Travis. Their QB at the time... Todd Reesing. Wouldve loved to get a pick off of him.
Thats about it I think. My memories from HS are cloudy to say the least.Texas. Football. All. Day.Comment

I haven't personally because I'm not of the athletic disposition, but my brother swam against Michael Phelps once at a swim meet at the North Baltimore Aquatic Center many many years ago. He lost convincingly.

I can't think of anyone that's in the pros yet.
I played against a couple of guys that are playing high level college football, but I won't drop names since you asked for pros... and they're not exactly household names.Originally posted by DaImmaculateONeHow many brothers does Sub-zero running around in his clothing? Earl Boykins (All-Star Classic teammate - IMPOSSIBLE to guard one-on-one)
Ruben Patterson (Grown man playing HS basketball)
London Fletcher (Had some nice scoring battles with this bowling ball. Great athlete.)
Melvin Levitt (AAU teammate)
Pepe Pearson (Very tough to stay in front of on the hoop court, but was out of control typically).Last edited by J-Unit40; 10-21-2009, 08:06 PM."Hard work beats talent, when talent isn't working hard.”Comment

Re: Did you ever play with or against a pro athlete in High School?
I have a running theme of just missing out on playing against pro athletes. In basketball, my squad took on former Packers RB Noah Herron (Mattawan) but he was out with a broken wrist at the time.
I was at the same scrimmage as current Packers WR Greg Jennings (Kalamazoo Central) but our teams never linked up (not that it would have made a difference, I didn't know he was that good of a football player at that point).
Finally, and I'm not sure if this really counts (because he plays overseas - and I've played a slew of those guys - but he's the only prominant one) I scrimmaged former Michigan State point guard Drew Neitzel's Wyoming Park team when he was a junior. However, we heard briefly beforehand that he was a pretty solid, bald white point guard. But it seemed like their team had like 4 of those guys fitting that description, so I'm not even convinced he was there.
And if we want to get kind of technical, my best friend played a couple years of A Ball with the Washington Nationals.Comment
