I love salads with fruit in them. Apples are great in traditional spinach salads. They really go great with bleu cheese and bacon as well. They also go well in cucumber salads... a slaw just with cucumber, apples, lemon juice, and seasoning is pretty damn tasty.

Pears are also really good in salads... and it's pear season.

I'm a lacto-vegetarian myself. Two years and counting!

For the laymen out there that simply means that I eat everything besides meat and eggs. In fact, I probably eat more dairy than anyone else I know. I put cheese on everything and still drink cow's milk way more than I probably should. I really like the soy milk, but I grew up on 2% cow's milk and it's hard for me to quit.

Fish is meat. No ifs ands or buts. Therefore, I do not eat it.

Yeah, those would be called 'pescatarians'.

Side note, I hate people that call themselves vegetarian but make exceptions randomly ("I normally don't eat meat, but this looks great") or eat fish... You are not a vegetarian, you just don't eat a lot of meat.

I eat fish, chicken, eggs and dairy. I don't call myself a vegetarian, though.

                Just no beef or pork.

Human beings are meant to be carnivores not herbivores. Don't do it man the negative side effects far outweigh the "benefits".

There is no pork I don't eat. Best meat ever.. ya'll religious people or whatever the hell reason you have that don't eat pork are missing out.. no offense. I will wrap pork in other kinds of pork and eat it with a side dish with pork in it. My favorite thing in the world is this Italian pulled pork that is tossed in pork fat and served on charred bread. Tortillas don't taste right unless they're made with lard, same with biscuits. You'll never have real green chile or tamales without pork.

A nice pork tenderloin is nearly as lean as a chicken breast and about a million times more flavorful. White meat chicken gets the gasface unless it's fried, soaked in curry sauce, or there is crispy skin stuffed with herb butter attached to it... it's nearly flavorless otherwise. I have no idea why so many people love chicken and so many people don't eat pork... do these people like FOOD at all?

I love me some pig. The Greek goddess traditions worshipped the pig and I say they were on the right track. I would hang pig art on my wall or buy a carved pig statue to make offerings to and light candles in front of. Anyway, pork rant over. Making a pizza tonight with spicy pork sausage, potatoes, sage, and onions... maybe I'll put bacon and Jamon Iberico on it too because that's just the delicious thing to do.

I hate that argument. Just because we have incisors doesn't mean that eating meat is the best thing for us. Chimps have incisors too but they still survive 99% on vegetables... they do kill other primates occasionally and do eat meat on rare occasion, but their incisors are not primarily for hunting meat as it is in big cats, etc... same with humans. Do you really think we were pouncing on deer and tearing them apart with our teeth? That's why we developed a frontal cortex... to use tools and not have to kill things with our teeth and fingernails.

Most societies since the advent of agriculture over 2000 years ago (i.e. the majority of "modern" human history) have eaten more grains, vegetables, and fruits than meats simply because they are more available and obtained more cheaply/easily. Hunter-gatherer societies, which are the last remaining shred of primordial man survive primarily on fruits and vegetables as well and supplement their diets with meat they manage to catch, not the other way around.

After 2000 years of that, human nutrition reacts most favorably to a diet high in vegetables, grains, and fruits, and low in meats (fish not included, though all the toxins in modern fish is worrysome). Additionally, meat-eating isn't sustainable in a world where cows eat more American produce than humans do... it is simply irresponsible to eat a ton of meat from spurious sources (remember that factory farms comprise over 98% of farming in the United States) that has often been shipped across country or from overseas.

Anyway, I eat meat but am not exactly proud of it. I do my best to buy well-raised meat from animals that aren't tortured before being killed. To argue that humans must eat meat to be healthy is completely ludicrous. There are WAY too many vegetarians that live off of frozen pizzas and veggie burgers though, and those people likely aren't very healthy... processed food is processed food, they're just eating less saturated fat and more unidentifiable chemicals and binding agents made to resemble actual food.

                            A+ post. Would read again.

I agree with everything you said and let me also add that most (not all, but most) people that dismiss vegetarianism blindly haven't looked into it enough to have a valid opinion anyway.
