Yeah, the US has the harshest prison sentences in the world, yet higher crime/violent crime rates.

The prison system doesn't rehabilitate (most) criminals, it turns them into better criminals when they get out.

Yeah I don't know what people are thinking about when they say "don't make things better, make them worse". Unless they killed someone they are going to get out eventually and do you think they're going to be like "well I certainly learned my lesson that time"? No, all that's going to happen is that they're going to get out in worse shape than they were before with no prospects outside of prison. Who does that help?

Just think, that 25 cent bullet saved millions of dollars for the trial and lifetime imprisonment of this clown. Great job to the officer who took him out!

This whole story is so messed up. Maurice Clemmon's getaway driver (and former cellmate) was convicted of 1st degree murder in 1989, received 25 years in a plea, and served less than 7 years in Arkansas. He was the getaway driver of an armed robbery, double homicide in that case. Less than 7 years for armed robbery and homicide! Our court system is so ****ed up.

If Lakewood police are able to determine the driver knew the police were targeted by Clemmons they are going after quadruple murder charges against him.

Then he violated his parole for assaulting a police officer and raping a child and was locked up again briefly but was released apparently when the prosecution failed to file paperwork on time.

I was reading an article where he was saying things like he was brothers with Obama and LeBron James and Oprah was his sister and that he was "the beast". Glad hes gone for all the same reasons the OP mentioned.

And that rape charge was due to him making his wife and young family members get naked together so he could preach to them that he was Jesus Christ and that the world was ending soon.

And just why does he believe he was Jesus Christ? Clemmons's uncle is a corrections officer in Arkansas and says Clemmons went off the deep end after Clemmons allowed a Devil worshipper to live on his property a few months back. Apparently, Clemmons and the Devil worshipper got into an argument and Clemmons claimed the Devil worshiper placed a curse on him. After that he thought he was Jesus.

good riddance, a man with no sanctity for human life. I feel for the officer that shot him. Dispite the fact that he did the world a favor by ridding it of a scumbag, he has to live with the fact that he took a life for the rest of his.

actually it's not, i just read an article on a website (i think it was cnn) that to try a death penalty case and to house a criminal can cost on average about 9 million dollars. there are massive appeals and trials and hearings and etc and all those court officers have to be paid. this isn't to mention all of his food, lodging, etc until he dies, plus the cost of putting him to death is in the millions.

you gotta remember, this is the government we are talking about, they probably pay $173 for the needle to shove in his arm, LOL

Death penalty cases and the appeals process thereafter are VERY expensive.

There was NO way this guy was going to be taken in alive after this. I don't care if he would have been sipping tea and eating a donut at a local shop and put his hands out for the police once he spotted them. He had no chance.

Cicely also reported that on Thanksgiving day, Clemmons ate dinner at her house and he was telling everyone, including Letrecia, Darcus Allen, and Cicely, that he planned to kill cops, he planned to kill children at a school, and he planned to kill as many people as he could in an intersection.

For those ,that don't know then-Gov. Huckabee reduced the sentence of a man (and made him eligible for parole) who later killed four Lakewood, WA police officers in a coffee shop. This is his guest column explaining the decision from the Seattle Times' website.
