The Right Lane is for SLOW Traffic

if 60 mph is too intense for you, move your slow *** over to the right.

How hard is this to understand?

Yeah, I agree. I guess some people only care about themselves.

No - the right lane is for normal traffic, while the left lane is for passing traffic.

If you're constantly driving in the left lane and passing people, you're probably speeding.

In LA the sign says is "slower traffic keep right."

As of August 1, 2009, it's actually a law. If you are slowing down the flow of traffic in the left lane, you can get a ticket now.

In NY, people do a pretty good job of using the Left lane for passing and staying in the Right lane.

In Hawaii it is a different story. Basically its something like this:

          <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/3xOO39wyKK4&hl=en_US&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/3xOO39wyKK4&hl=en_US&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

OK, but if someone is going at greater speed than you while you're on the left lane, why don't you move to the right lane? Doesn't matter if that guy's speeding or not.

That law is for people who aren't going the speed limit and are blatantly slowing traffic down, they will not give a ticket to someone going the speed limit in the passing lane.

Someone going at least the speed limit has as much a right to use the passing lane to pass someone as anyone else does.

Because if I'm already going the limit or 5-10 higher (which is what I usually go) and I'm passing people, I'm not going to pull over because some idiot behind me is speeding even more than I am. And I'm not in the left lane unless I'm passing, so it's never an issue for me; I'd never be holding up someone behind me unless they were speeding excessively.

It's only a problem if your state has a law saying you can't pass in the right lane (Missouri for example).

Re: The Right Lane is for SLOW Traffic

This is a touchy subject for me, and I suppose I can do nothing but respect people who are obeying the law.

But here is what I hate: if I'm trying to pass somebody and I'm on the left (two drivers, in this case), the car in the back has no right to close the door on me and kill my momentum as I'm blatantly going faster than him and will pass him much quicker than he will pass the other car. This is the absolute worst on I-5 in California that goes two lanes both ways and has a bunch of trucks. I may be going 75 (which I think is legal, I can't remember the speed limit on that freeway), and then a truck behind another truck decides to pull in the left lane to "pass" him, but he goes so damn slow that it takes forever to happen. Why not just wait for me, and then go through?

Another thing that I see, which almost contradicts what I just said, is I may be to the left of a car and on my way to pass him, when a speeder is coming to the right of me trying to weave between us. I say, "Uh uh," and speed up to close the door on him, then continue through so he can go behind me. This is my lane, I have the right to possess it, and you can take it after me.

I hate when drivers are completely oblivious to those around them.

At certain times during the day the LIE (Long Island Expressway) is like the autobahn. If you are not doing 70 plus you are causing problems.
