Did anyone else see Dick Clark last night?

Or should I say, the corpse of Dick Clark? Man, he is in really bad shape. I understand the man had a stroke not too long ago and is 80 years old and some people lose their minds long before that but he is just too slow and incoherent to be hosting New Years Eve in Times Square anymore. I have nothing but respect for him, but it's about time that ABC brought in somebody else to host next year. It was just kind of sad to see him out there like that stumbling over his own words and not even doing the countdown in order, "13, 12, 10, 11, 9, 10, 11, 9, 8..." He's had a hell of a run, but it's time to hang them up.

Yeah - I never really pay attention to the whole New Years thing, but when my wife switched to that channel I couldn't help but feel pretty bad. He just needs to accept that it's not his time anymore and pass the reigns on. That was hard to watch/listen to.

I thought Seacrest took over this gig from him a few years back?

Poor guy, I remember watching him as a kid, and he was pretty old in the mid 80's.

He's been the same ever since his stroke. If I recall, last year he even forgot a few numbers during the countdown. I've been telling my wife for years that they need to get him off the TV.

From what I read, he turned over all the duties to Seacrest a number of years ago, but still wants to be on the TV for a few segments (the countdown being one of those segments). I think someone needs to tell him his time is done.

Not only was it creepy, but he had a splotchy fake orange tan too. Trotting him out at this point isnt even in poor taste, its in horrrrrible taste.
As Shaquille O'Neal left the Suns practice court, he yelled out, "Alvin's the coach. We must be the Clippers. And I must be Olowokandi. Nooooo!"

Re: Did anyone else see Dick Clark last night?

If ABC insists on giving him something as important as the countdown why not pre-record it?

They are already proving that his name is more important than the performance, since no one else in his kind of state would be on national television for anything. If they recorded the countdown, no one would know, and it would keep such a heavily watched event from being so damn awkward.

^^ I agree. We were watching it live and I was like Damn, why do that to the guy. I mean, I'm sure he wants to be out there and all but, ABC shouldn't allow him to be in that situation.

Re: Did anyone else see Dick Clark last night?

I remember years ago thinking "man, that guy really shouldn't still be doing this", but, here we are, and he's still going at it.

I have a feeling that he really wants to do it, despite his condition. I remember he wouldn't show his face after his stroke, and generally kept low. But if he's willing to do this, and he really wants to, then I don't oppose letting the guy have his time once a year.

Now the quality of the actual broadcast is another thing, but that depends on ABC, and whether they care enough or not.

Yeah I saw it, and said the exact same thing to my wife. They need to keep him off the screen. He looks bad and you can hardly understand a word he's saying. They should just let Seacrest have the show in it's entirety. Seacrest also needs to host a new American Bandstand and Solid Gold with Marie Osmond as the new Madame (seriously, what the hell happened to her?).

I applaud him for wanting to keep doing it. Even if it is just the countdown, they could have Seacrest do it from 30 to 10 and let Clark finish it off.
