    Job Posting on Craigslist

So as a few of you may know, I am unemployed and desperately searching for a job. I came across a HR position and since i thought I had relevant experience I wrote a quick Email and sent out my Resume and I get this Email back
    Hi,

Thank you for sending in your resume to me. So the job responsibilities are clear, you will be answering the phone, scheduling meetings, and running company errands such as buying office supplies and making bank deposits, in a company car. When running errands you will be provided with a company credit card to make supply purchases, etc.We have had some bad experiences with prior employees taking advantage of having access to a company credit card in the past,

So before we can schedule an interview, we need you to get a credit check. We prefer you use this link to obtain this information as they currently have a free trial. We have also found their reports most accurate.

When you submit your information they will send you your credit score. Then you can email me your credit score, we can schedule for an interview. Please do not email me your credit report, as this may have private information in it. Just send me your credit score. If you have a low credit score, that will not prevent you from having an interview with us, but it does show us that you are trustworthy and responsible.

Please send me your schedule of availability for an interview along with your credit score.

I am looking forward to your response.

    Sincerely,

    Tanya Jones

    HR Manager
    PIV Corporation.

So All of this sounded pretty normal but the Credit Score sounded a bit suspect. So I did what I always do to companies who Email me back, I google the company name and I got this:

That is tough, I think just the score can't hurt though. And I can see why they want to know it too. So I don't know what to say. Maybe see if there are some scams about the just score. You never know now adays.

If all they need is a credit score, you should be able to get it from annualcreditreport.com. I believe it's the only place my office (I'm a state worker) says where you can get a truly free credit report. The only catch is that you can only get one free report per year.

With that said, I don't think the job posting is legit.

        Yup

If there's a way to do so, search neighboring states for the language in the job you applied for. My guess is something will come up in each state.

Just send them your made up score, then if they ask for a copy, say no because you have personal info on it. It seems like either they need people signing up or the link is not real and they are getting your info from the link.

I looked into it a little bit, the scam is, When you give them your Resume, you are most likely giving your name, address, Email, and phone Number. Now when you give them your Credit Score, they will sell all that information to telemarketers or spammers.

Yup - don't do it man. Scam scam scam. Anything that asks you to fill out a survey and "reject" any of the Top 3 offers is a scam.

Also there is one that comes back with a "attention to detail" survey - where the questions are like "What was the 3rd offer on page 2" or "What color was the background of the offer page option 3?".

                Yeah - scam, stay away.

damn, man... it sounds like you're finding no luck trying to find a job. but luck will eventually turn good for you. just gotta keep looking... good thing you searched that company out. i would have definitely done so, and it was smart that you did that. there shoudl be some way to report companies like that taking advantage of all the people who are desperate and in need. good luck in your job search, my friend. hope karma bites the members of this company in the *** ... hard.

Maybe they should hire some proofreaders too...

Best of luck in your search, Cusefan. If you haven't/don't already, tell as many people as possible that you're looking for work and more importantly, what type of work. You never know who may give you a lead...

                          Re: Job Posting on Craigslist

Credit checks should be irrelevant when applying for a job. It's discrimination like any other area (racism, sexist, etc). Legally an employer cannot not offer you a job because you have a poor credit score. Of course no one could ever prove that that's the sole reason a company didn't offer you the job.

I have not applied for a job in ages, I have no idea if it's the standard for potential employers to do a credit check these days.
