She has been looking for a job for a long time and in an economic climate such as this one taking it is a necessity not a luxury. Unless I missed something WTF, you are a KY State Trooper making you a state employee and as such not seeing this as a hardship in these financial times coupled with the result being breaking up a marital home you have a strong, strong case.

This. And yes Mass, I am a KSP Trooper. My thinking is the same as yours in this case. We are extremely shorthanded in my sector of the state, which is why my staff is saying that it most likely does not go through, however, as big of a family oriented organization as we bill ourself to be, I don't see how it isn't a hardship. I just don't want to deny her the opportunity, and I won't. Same token, I don't want to be without my wife and newborn child while waiting for my regular transfer to go through in 10 months.

We are literally treading water where we are currently at. This would/and is, a God sent opportunity.

For those of you who don't think this is prayer worthy, I can understand that, but if you would, at least keep your fingers crossed

We are not unionized by the way Mass.

I say gut it out. 2.5 hours isnt much to drive. Seriously I drove 3 hours one way to get to work before for almost 2 years before I found a place closer. In the grand scheme of things, you got soldiers who dont get to see their newborn child for the 1st 16 months of their life if they stationed overseas.

Or think about how cross country truckers feel. They only get to see their family 2 or 3 days out of the week most of the time and sometimes not for 11 days at a time.

So just take the drive and lose some sleep. Things can be worse.

Does your wife have friends and family where the new job is? Would she be living by herself?

I can't imagine a woman choosing to basically be a working "single mom" if she had the option of having a 2 parent household. Especially with a newborn.

These things tend to work themselves out and I wish you luck WTF.
            Good job! Good effort!

You obviously never dated a downtown Chicago woman. They would put their career above ALL, including kids and husbands. You have some downtown NYC women like that too.

She is taking it because input town, there are literally no jobs. She is doing the responsible thing and we want a solid foundation for our future when the child gets here.

I find it totally prayer-worthy. The family is what we all do what we do for. I share your desire to have a good future for your family. Just place in in the hands of Him who can do all things. Then let it be. BTW, I really respect guys who have jobs that service the greater good. Be it soldier, police or firefighter. We don't thank you guys enough. I'll be praying double hard for you! God Bless and Congrats on the daughter!

I really appreciate this Brian. I just want to be with my family and keep it strong. I'm a "protector" of my family, and I don't know how I could work away from them, not knowing that they're ok at all times. Granted, my situation is not nearly as tough as what Gary is going through, and my thoughts and prayers go out to him and his girls as well. But I do appreciate it, and I know that it is in his hands. I've had some people be very discouraging through our chain of command, but in my eyes, I have to at least try to transfer to be close to my family.

And to those of you who said that you don't understand why she took it... Well, you aren't in our shoes and don't know the situation.

I couldn't deny her the opportunity to do what she loves, just as she has done for me. She sacrificed a lot, leaving the job that she loved to move with me. I owe it to her to let her be happy in a career that she loves, whilst strengthening our financial position.

This is not a, she can take it or leave it... our family needs this, and she needs this. I just hope and pray that our staff will consider my request for a hardship transfer, and let me be there with them.

Mass, I appreciate it man, but I'm not sure that it'll do any good. The good news is, that I talked with another unit who told me that they are EXTREMELY shorthanded at their post, and that they needed help tremendously. So keep your fingers crossed fellas.

I will keep you and your family in my prayers Will. Have you thought about getting a place in between both you and your wife's jobs? That way you guys would both split the time difference.

I appreciate it brotha. Thing is, I have to reside in the district I cover. So we can't go half way, and she has to live in the county they specify, so we are really in a quandry.
