Yeah being it is stick, empty parking lot is the way to go. Then hit the side streets early in the morning or the middle of the afternoon when it isnt crowded. Then finally the main streets. I suggest backing off the highway until she has driven for at least 8 months.

Highway with a manual transmission is asking for trouble with a noob.

My parents didnt teach me how to drive at all. I learned by joy riding in my friends cars, since all of them had cars when we turned 15. I learned on the side streets then main streets.

In Chicago you had to take drivers ed, get a permit, then go to traffic school for 3 weeks, get a blue slip from the state, then go to the DMV to take the road test.

In indiana all you need is drivers ed and dmv road test, which was easy. You just drove around the block LOL. In Chicago they made you parell park, drive for 2 miles and all that crap before you could pass the dmv test.

That stinks for those learning to drive, probably good for people on the road already though

I live in Texas and I did the at home. I drove whenever me and my mom went somewhere, but when I turned 16 we just wrote down driving times so it added up to enough, went to the DMV, got a 70% on my test and I have been driving ever since

Oh, I forgot to mention that this is a trick question. Women never truly learn how to drive correctly, no matter how hard you try

Sticks are only fun and worth while if you leave in a sparse lightly populated area anyway. If you live in a major city, stick is so not worth it. They will have a traffic light on every other block.

I remember living in Chicago, I never made it past 2nd gear most of the time and never passed 3rd before I came to a red light or stop sign. But then again Chicago is a city of 5 million people if you included the millions of illegals living there.

I ran up onto a curb the first time I drove but my dad stayed calm, and it helped me stay calm.
Yeah, I remember my mom made me drive to my driving test and was freaking out at every little thing, and because of that I was a nervous wreck by the time I got there.

If your daughter does not have a learners permit (or equivalent in your state) do not let her drive on any actual road.

Re: Teaching my daughter to drive any tips?

Well, it went great. We stayed pretty much in my area, there are a few dead end roads that no one uses around my house that I used to teach her the clutch work. She had it down in about a half hour. Then I had her take me around the block a few times.
We did this Thursday and Friday night.

No fighting, bickering or arguing. It went smooth. She should have it down in about a week. Then I'll start teaching her the "rules" and do's and don'ts of the road.

Although she may know most of them already, as I tend to verbally explain my displeasure to the stupid things other drivers do aound me! LOL
