I had been thinking about getting a gun recently. I probably will. Didnt help that someone tried to break in my brother's home in the burbs last week while he was there. He had both his handguns loaded and ready to blast through the back door. He ended up kicking the back door (that was going to be their entry after they had knocked on the front door twice and he never answered, just saw them through the peephole) and the two kids took off. They have no idea how close they were to their lives ending.

Well...what I was alluding to was women.
When my wife is home alone while I'm on a 24 hour shift....she's not grabbing a Moss to blast away an intruder.
She is comfortable with a Glock 9.
Considering I don't really want to fill my home with weapons...I was just putting forth why some might want a handgun for dual users and purposes.

Worst case scenario, Your wife needs to shoot the gun and does not have a permit, that is a felony.
Personally, I would recommend a canister of pepper spray, baseball bat, and a Zip tie.My dog's butt smells like cookiesComment

Re: Guns
Well here is the thing, If this is for your wife, I would Recommend you both get your Pistol Permits. Pistol Permits are expensive but if you both need to shoot it you will both need permits.

I'm a former police officer....it's someone else asking.
.....and we do have the pepper spray, baseball bat and zip ties....and use them often....but I'm getting tired of the taste of the pepper spray and the guys at work are starting to notice the bruises from the baseball bat.

Re: Guns
In all honesty more people get killed or robbed with their own guns, then prevent people from robbing them. But if you must, do get a gun lock for your gun.Comment

Re: Guns
The thing about guns is everyone wants one, but hardly anyone knows how to use them.
My dad is a retired police officer and I grew up with guns. He had about 10 in the house. He taught me about guns at a very early age. I fired my first gun (12 gauge) when I was 8. My shoulder was sore for a week lol. He showed me how to use a hand gun when I was 10. He taught me to respect the guns. I love guns and I own a few, .38 Special, Glock 23, and a .22 rifle. They aren't toys. They never come out of the safe unless I go to the range, or to be cleaned.
I don't carry because I just don't feel the need to. I live in a good neighborhood and don't venture to the bad ones.
Anyway, if you want to own a gun, respect the gun, and learn about the gun.Comment

Re: Guns
I think it's 21 for a handgun. And that might even be if you want a concealed HG license.

Guns in general are not bad, it is the ignorant people who want them and don't know how to use them. I am a firm supporter of being able to protect yourself in your house. A gun is the best way to do this, someone breaks into my house and I am there......well let just saying they not leaving. I will protect my family.
I also don't understand the posts of "This will get ugly" and such. Why is discussing guns, regulations, etc looked down on. It is a right to be able to protect your life.
Point of this rambling is I think guns are not the problem. It is lack of education on how to use them, how to respect them, and how to own a gun with responsibility. If this was more commonly taught across the country you would have less self inflict gun injuries and death.
I know in the south it is a topic we learn at a very young age. Everyone owns both hunting and self protection firm arms. The number of people who own weapons here vastly out number the people who "won't" own.Comment

Re: Guns
We have several guns in my household, but almost all are locked up..
My father has his pistol permit and he keeps his 9mm. in his truck at all times... he works in Birmingham.. and it's an unpredictable place, while traveling through specific locations...
The important thing to remember about having a pistol permit is using common sense. One bad decision, such as deciding to drive drunk, could cost you more then just a DUI charge.. if you have any sort of weapon in your vehicle, whether it's registered and you have the permit for it or not..
Be responsible & put your' guns to the use that they are designed for...

Re: Guns
Getting a firearm in Texas is relatively simple provided you don't have a record of course. Me and some of my old fraternity brothers used to buy handguns from a local pawn shop. Its really just a matter of your background getting run, if you're lucky and get cleared while in the store you get to walk out with it that day -- if not, then you gotta wait usualy a day or two.Oklahoma State Cowboys 2011 Big XII Champions, 2012 Fiesta Bowl Champions

Re: Guns
Yeah, go early in the day as possible and bring some reading material or a PSP or something because you'll be there awhile. I have done it twice and the first time was about 2 hours but the second time was about 5 hours because the store said i had gotten a gun earlier and the second gun takes longer beause you're getting into multiple guns or something to that effect..although honestly i have no idea how they knew that since they are supposed to shred the paperwork after it's approved.Streaming PC & PS5 games, join me most nights after 6:00pm ET on TwitchTV https://www.twitch.tv/shaunh20

Re: Guns
Not sure if this is an appropriate thread, but I didn't want to start a new one.
My grandfather passed away in 1991. My grandmother held on to this revolver since then, then passed it on to me recently as it was given to me in his will. It's a 1941 .38 S&W. Original link and it still has the original checkered-walnut stock. The holster, a Bucheimer, wasn't issued with the revolver, but the notes say it was purchased in 1954 or 1955.
His father, my great-grandfather was issued the revolver in 1941 while serving for Great Britain. It is an American-made revolver, but was exported for the war effort. He later moved to America in the late 1940's.
